Trey Gowdy, former Congressman from South Carolina, will join the Trump impeachment defense team, according to reports.
Gowdy rose to prominence during the Benghazi hearings, chairing the United States House Select Committee on Events Surrounding the 2012 Terrorist Attack in Benghazi. He did not run for reelection in 2018 in order to pursue a legal career and get out of politics, he claimed at the time.
Now, he’s back in politics, it seems, but as a private lawyer. Gowdy is a good add for the Trump Team. According to Politico, during his tenure in Congress, Gowdy was “considered one of the GOP’s most versatile and skilled legal experts, owing to his background as a federal prosecutor.”
