Yeah, back again. Complete disk failure on the old laptop so I’ve been offline for a few days. Is there such a thing as “the online DT’s?”? If so, I got them so I’m glad to be back after looping, over and over, trying to get those disk sector errors under control. Didn’t work – ended up with a disk controller problem rather than a platter or head issue.
So now the new ride is a refurb Dell laptop: Xeon processor, 64GB RAM, and two 1 terabyte solid state drives in a mirrored configuration. Yes, it is a screamer and will be able to handle the database projects that are already in progress. It is, however, a heavy sucker and required AC brick is a boat anchor size wise as well. I also didn’t realize how many apps I had on the old HP laptop – two days and I’m still not done and I haven’t even gotten to a lot of the configuration setup for them. Sigh….
If there is one thing to be thankful for is the weekly backups I’ve been doing for forever. I’d have been completely screwed if I hadn’t spent the time every Monday morning doing a full backup.
No more looping for me! And time, finally, to get back to work…
