Florida Senate Committee Upholds Former Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel’s Suspension

A bit of housekeeping. Back on October 15th, we shared the news that former Broward County Sheriff, Scott Israel, could get his job back. Israel oversaw the epic failure leading up to and after the Parkland shooting.

A formal review of his dismissal suggested that Israel was not personally responsible for the actions or inactions of his deputies. That Governor Desantis did not have adequate cause for his removal. The matter moved to the State Senate for consideration.

The Florida Senate Rules Committee voted Monday in favor of removing suspended Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel from office, going against a special master’s recommendation that he be reinstated. … After being presented with Goodlette’s report, the committee heard from attorneys for DeSantis and Israel before voting 9-7 in favor of upholding the suspension.

That’s no guarantee the full Senate will agree and complete the process. A Senate is a curious thing.

But we’ll keep watching.
