If the New Hampshire Democrats really cared about gun control, thinking (incorrectly) that it may save lives, why did three bills seemingly ‘important’ to them sit on the desks Of Democrat Legislative Leaders Donna Soucy and Stephen Shurtleff for 39 days?
Yes – 39 days – that’s how long HB109, HB514, and HB564 have been enrolled. Meaning, they could have been on Governor Sununu’s desk 39 days ago.
Since these three bills have been enrolled, over 150 other pieces of legislation have made their way to his desk, signed by both Soucy and Shurtleff.
On August 5th, the NHGOP released a statement slamming these leaders for waiting until an ‘opportune’ moment struck:
Concord, NH – NHGOP Communications Director Joe Sweeney released the following statement regarding Democrats politicizing a national tragedy:
“Democrats are disgustingly politicizing a tragedy by sending the Governor these anti-Second Amendment bills immediately following terrible acts of violence in Texas and Ohio. None of these bills would have prevented those tragedies. But, by purposefully withholding the legislation for months until tragedy struck, Democrats made it clear that they are only here to play politics and they should be ashamed of themselves. This is a despicable new low for Senator Soucy and Speaker Shurtleff. Make no mistake, New Hampshire is consistently ranked as one of the safest states in the nation due to our strong Second Amendment and Article 2A culture. Governor Sununu is right to veto all anti-Second Amendment legislation, and Granite Staters support him doing so.”
The motivations for sending the legislation to Sununu’s desk at this exact moment is evident to anyone with an IQ above room temperature, on its face alone, not even accounting for the fact that they trampled all over their own minimum wage presser and messaging by doing so, which only adds to the transparency of the exercise.
The substance of these bills has been covered many times already, so I won’t go into it again, other than to remind you that the Governor only has three more days now to decide to Veto, Sign, or allow to become law.
Call Governor Sununu at 603-271-2121 and ask him to Veto these terrible bills.
