One thing sticks out at me at events like this – I keep wondering why they even bother to put up TOFUS (Teleprompter of the United States)? I’ve watched him when he gives a “measured” speech (for him, that is) and you can tell that his vocabulary and sentence structure are FAR different than what we heard tonite. Not a bad thing, but I, for one, like listening to him go ad hoc for it really gives us a sense of what he’s all about. And tonite, it was also clear that when he is in this mode, he has almost a full control of the audience – something that many politicians try for, some think they do have, but few can use it the way he does. Certainly Reagan “had it” and so did Obama (IF he focused on what was written on TOFUS – going ad lib turned him into a stuttering, unsure speaker).
