Evil Preaches Tolerance Until it Gets What it Wants. Example: China

The US Media hasn’t been covering it well, but there is an uprising in Hong Kong going on over Communist Chinese President Xi Jinping’s efforts to absorb the former British colony into the mainland China’s grip.

This would erase much of what made Hong Kong an economic standout. It would also wipe out much of what is left of the Anglosphere’s legacy of The Rule of Law and Classic Western Liberalism. But here’s what caught my eye and one that we on the Right have seen over and over again (reformatted, emphasis mine):

Britain told China to honor its commitments to protect freedoms in Hong Kong on Tuesday after police fired tear gas to disperse hundreds of protesters in the former British colony. Officers moved in after crowds stormed and trashed Hong Kong’s legislature on Monday, the anniversary of its return to Chinese rule, protesting against proposed legislation allowing extraditions to mainland China.

They fear that once gone, forever gone. For whatever reason. No matter WHAT was agreed upon:

British Foreign Minister Jeremy Hunt condemned violence on both sides and warned of consequences if China neglects commitments made when it took back Hong Kong to allow freedoms not enjoyed in mainland China, including the right to protest. “We can make it clear we stand behind the people of Hong Kong in defense of the freedoms that we negotiated for them when we agreed to the handover in 1997 and we can remind everyone that we expect all countries to honor their international obligations,” Hunt told Reuters when asked what Britain could do.

…China said on Monday Britain no longer has any responsibility for Hong Kong and needed to stop “gesticulating” about the city.

I thought it was a stupid idea to hand back Hong Kong at the time. It has been clear that the feeling is mutual. Qhat was agreed upon is now being ignored. And there is a parallel to be made – keep reading.

…The protests have created a fresh crisis for Chinese President Xi Jinping, already grappling with a trade war with Washington, a faltering economy and tension in the South China Sea. China and Britain signed a Joint Declaration in 1984 on the terms of the return of Hong Kong.  Monday marked the 22nd anniversary of the actual handover in 1997, and some protesters hung a colonial flag in a chamber of the Legislative Council building after getting in.

So, agreements made?  You know, sort of like our US Constitution and Declaration of Independence?

Great Britain was in the throes of divesting itself from all of its former colonies and China got what it wanted – an economic jewel.  At the time, however, the two governmental systems were a chasm apart in outlook and actual governance.  You know, just like the Democrat Socialists and Conservative here in the US right now. What also is going on right now in Hong Kong/China is what the Democrat Socialists have been pushing as well:

China said in 2017 the Sino-British Joint Declaration was a historical document with no practical significance, and has regularly urged Britain not to interfere in Hong Kong affairs as protests have mounted. Britain rejects this view of the declaration and insists it is not interfering inappropriately in China’s affairs.

That’s what the Progressive Democrat Socialists (“PDSs”) have been saying about the US Constitution. Both China and PDSs are unilaterally trashing the agreements made. Sure, for different reasons. PDSs hate our Constitution as it restricts their actions and the ChiComs hate their agreement with Britain for the same reason. The difference is that China has what it wants and can ignore Britain. The PDSs don’t have the power YET to do the same, but if they ever do, the US Constitution will also have “no practical significance.

And we on the Right will say our equivalent of this:

“The joint declaration remains valid…”

And the PDSs, like the ChiComs, will ignore it – and our Rights.

Every time that the Left, in whatever form, time, and location, has been able to grasp the levers of Power firmly, had abrogated any agreement that has come before.  But then again, one has to know History to understand that – something the Left embedded in our educational system has learned and, therefore, not teaching it.

And we are seeing the effects of that now from the NH Democrat Party trying to turn NH into just a small version of what they’ve already done in MA, CA, IL, NY…
