New Hampshire Casino Gambling Bill Officially Dead for This Session

There’s no lucky 21 for State Senator Lou D’Allesandro. The 2019 version of legislation to introduce casino gambling to the Granite State took a gut punch a few weeks ago when a House committee rejected the Senate approved bill by a vote of 17-2.

The full New Hampshire House agreed with the committee ruling of inexpedient to legislate. For those, not from around here, that means the committee said kill it, and the House did just that. The full House agreed with the committee vote 289-63.

A bill to allow two casinos narrowly passed the Senate in March. But the House voted 289-63 to kill the bill, then voted by a similar margin to go even further and “indefinitely postpone” it so the idea can’t come back again in any form later this year.

Senator Lou had promised to stop pushing for these after attempt number twenty, but I guess he couldn’t help himself. But this was a pretty brutal defeat, given his party has the majority in both houses of the state legislature.
