Part 5 – Testimony on behalf of HB564 – relative to possession of firearms in safe school zones

Continuing on from Part 4 here:

  • Jerry Nadler (D-NY):
Setup: former assistant U.S. attorney and self described conservative constitutionalist Andrew McCarthy argued during his testimony:

“principal purpose of the Constitution is to limit the power of government to intrude on the liberties and suppress the rights of the American people.”

Jerry Nadler (D-NY): make that “historical correction” because he hears people saying the contrary and

“it really bothers me. The Constitution was enacted to strengthen government power to enable central government to lay taxes and to function effectively. We put limits on that through the Bill of Rights, but the Constitution was enacted for the opposite purpose,

  • On Tuesday, the California State Senate voted in favor of Senate Bill 497, which would restrict Californians from purchasing or transferring more than one firearm in a 30-day period.

There is no need or reason why a person would need to purchase more than one gun a month,” the bill’s sponsor, Sen. Anthony Portantino (D-La Cañada Flintridge), said during the floor debate.

Ah yes, the Progressive tell and the typical whiff of the autocratic air: “You don’t need that” (like Democrat Socialist Bernie Sanders who infamously (paraphrased) proclaimed “who needs [the choice between ]23 different kinds of underarm deodorant?”

Conclusion:
