In 2015 Savannah Georgia elected its first white mayor in twenty years. Eddie DeLoach, currently Mayor Eddie DeLoach, is running again. But not everyone is excited about his chances. The Bolton Street Baptist Church held a community meeting. The idea was to get everyone behind one black candidate. No white reporters were allowed.
Fox reports that signs were posted on the doors. No audio or video recording. No media (TV, radio, etc.) “Black Press Only.”
At least three black candidates are running already, and one of those is hoping to lead the city to a more “inclusive Savannah, a progressive Savannah.”
Not to worry.
Progressive inclusion is the institutionalization of exclusion. Anyone who is not liberal is dirt. If you happen to be of white European descent, you are evil dirt.
I hope that’s not what he means.
These elections are non-partisan so you don’t necessarily know who leans which way politically unless you know. They can also be crowded affairs; anyone who qualifies can run.
A ballot loaded with one non-black candidate and several black candidates might divide folks if they only vote based on color. And based on the black press only signs some do.
Just don’t go thinking you can post ‘White Press Only’ signs anywhere, ever. That would be racist.
