New Mexico has been in our news a lot lately. In response to liberal legislation, almost every county has declared itself a sanctuary for Gun owners. So, how about a refuge for life? The Roswell New Mexico city council just voted seven to one in support of a resolution to protect fetal life.
The resolution also states that the City Council declares “its opposition to any diminution by the New Mexico Legislature of the limitations on abortion” and “honors the rights of healthcare providers to object on moral grounds to performing abortions and opposes any regulation or law seeking to violate that right.”
LifeSiteNews notes that the town council’s resolution points to the Declaration of Independence to guide them. As well as “a paper from the American College of Pediatricians stating:”
The predominance of human biological research confirms that human life begins at conception-fertilization. At fertilization, the human being emerges as a whole, genetically distinct, individuated zygotic living human organism, a member of the species Homo sapiens, needing only the proper environment to grow and develop. The difference between the individual in its adult state and in its zygotic state is one of form, not nature.
In the Beginning…
Conception is like the universal big bang but better. The universe, depending on who you ask, appeared out of nowhere from nothing to create everything including us. The fallback to that thesis is that if a divine being was responsible where did they come from, eh?
Fair questions for rigorous debate. But conception involves the combination of actual matter provided by members of the opposite sex. Conception creates life and is the only beginning of that life. A genetically distinct human organism. A life in transition with rights.
Roswell, New Mexico has resolved to stand up for that life. Give it sanctuary.
How refreshing.
