We asked our Facebook fans if New Hampshire should require abortion providers to have medical training. At present, it is not necessary. Anyone can perform an abortion in the Granite State. There is no requirement that these procedures even be reported. So, anyone could abort, and we’d never know.
They could do them in some back alley.
We Need To Start Somewhere
Given where we are as a state on the issue of abortion even after successive years of Republican majorities and two sessions with a Republican governor, we can’t ignore this.
We can agree that abortion is murder but without a legislature and a governor willing to make changes that won’t translate into anything. To get elected officials in office in numbers to move this issue, we need an educated electorate.
Yes, we have great pro-life groups and communities doing far more work on this than I ever will. But outside the activist community, I’d bet money that 99% of GraniteState residents don’t know that “women’s health clinics” in New Hampshire do not need trained or educated medical personnel to do their ‘work.’
How is This Health Care?
How are these clinics providing health care without requiring certified nurses or doctors? What’s the difference between that and a neighbor who provides”vehicle inspections” in his home garage? The latter is illegal.
So, we asked. Should NH require abortion providers to have some medical training?
Our Facebook readers responded: 97% said yes, medical training should be required. A small 3% said let anyone abort. I’m sure that 3% is also good with unlicensed cosmeticians, and mechanics. How about Reflexologists, Barbers, or midwives?
Yes, midwives have to be licensed, but abortion providers do not.
There are multiple narratives here that lead to questions deserving answers. Until regular New Hampshire citizens start asking them, we’ll never get anywhere meaningful on this issue.
