The first Somali-American woman elected to Congress is an anti-semite. She’s also a Democrat if that isn’t obvious. And for the better part of five and a half weeks, she’s been running her mouth off.
Back on January 6th, in a report on her openly anti-Semitic history, I asked,
“…when will the Liberal-scolds get off their hypocrisy horse and ride roughshod over the remarks of Congresswoman Omar?”
Five weeks. Ilhan Omar has been in Congress for less than six.
To their credit, I never expected them to say boo. But between Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib less than glowing reports keep popping up in the press. Sure, it’s cute when celebrities or protesters do that sort of thing. Crafty Democrats will side-step that hate and use it as an opportunity to recycle their TDS messaging. But the Democrat freshman class has not been kind to Pelosi and Company. They keep riling up the wing-nuts.
Democrat Leadership Snaps
Fox News has some coverage on the official House Majority Leadership statement.
“Anti-Semitism must be called out, confronted and condemned whenever it is encountered, without exception,” the statement said. “We are and will always be strong supporters of Israel in Congress because we understand that our support is based on shared values and strategic interests. Legitimate criticism of Israel’s policies is protected by the values of free speech and democratic debate that the United States and Israel share. But Congresswoman Omar’s use of anti-Semitic tropes and prejudicial accusations about Israel’s supporters is deeply offensive.
“We condemn these remarks and we call upon Congresswoman Omar to immediately apologize for these hurtful comments.”
Omar stood her ground for a while but eventually offered an apology about anti-Semitic tropes that included an anti-semitic trope (surprise!).
“Anti-Semitism is real and I am grateful for Jewish allies and colleagues who are educating me on the painful history of anti-Semitic tropes,” she said on Twitter. “My intention is never to offend my constituents or Jewish Americans as a whole.”
Omar added a BUT Statement “I reaffirm the problematic role of lobbyists in our politics, whether it be AIPAC, the NRA, or the fossil fuel industry.”
Putting the ‘Numb’ in the Numbers
Omar is parroting more than one liberal stereotype in her apology. The first Fossil Fuel lobbying business to appear in the top fifty in lobbying dollars spent lands at number 19. Neither the NRA nor the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) is in the top 100.
Anti-Semites complain about AIPAC’s intensive lobbying–but it’s not true. AIPAC doesn’t have enough money to be a top lobbyist. In fact, based on 2017 Open Secrets data, AIPAC doesn’t even make the top 100 lobbying organizations in America. Rep. Omar’s inclusion of AIPAC in top lobbyists is just one more anti-Semitic stereotype.
The top 20 is top-heavy with Business Associations (US Chamber of Commerce is #1), Realty, Hospital, Pharma, Tech giants (Google and Amazon), Chemical Companies, Media (Comcast, AT&T, Assoc. of Broadcasters), and yes, George Soros money. In 2017 Open Society Policy Center (Part of the Open Society Foundations) came in at number eleven and spent over 16 million dollars on lobbying that year.
AIPAC and the NRA combined spent 8.5 million.
Ilhan Omar isn’t just an anti-semite. She’s another echo-chamber Democrat.
