During the recent midterm elections, the Democrats kept telling us how important it was to have a more “diverse” legislature. Which meant voting against the GOP because they were old and white and, probably worst of all, men.
NHPR fairly recently ran a victory lap -er, I mean an article- about how much more “diverse” the Legislature is:
Last session, in a body of 400, there were just 23 state representatives under the age of 35.
So I have a question for Espitia, NHPR and all the other Democrats who have been preaching diversity: If the diversity is the goal, why aren’t you Democrats asking Senator Jeannie Shaheen to stand down for someone more diverse?
While Jeannie is a woman, she is old (71), white and a multi-millionaire. Don’t we already have enough old, white millionaires in the United States Senate? Indeed, don’t we already have enough old, white, women millionaires?
What can Senator Jeannie add in terms of diversity that Senator Feinstein-85 years old; net worth around $60 million- doesn’t already provide? Or that multi-millionaire, soon to be septuagenarian, Elizabeth Warren doesn’t already provide?
Of course, the Democrats are NOT going to ask Senator Jeannie to stand down. Nor are they going to primary her. Like so much else on the Democrats’ agenda, it’s diversity for thee, but not for me.
