Data Point – Biggest American problem? Gallup: Government

by Skip

Nineteen percent of respondents cited “government” as the problem, making it the top issue of concern. In second place came “immigration,” cited by 16% of the respondents. However, when broken down politically, 29% of Republicans said immigration is a problem but only 7% of Democrats said the same…Only 8% of respondents said “unifying the country” was a problem, and only 3% said unemployment-jobs and then gun control/guns were a problem. Also, only 5% said “healthcare” was a problem.

The money line:

The contrast between what Americans are actually worried about and what our politicians are focusing on is, at least in some areas, shocking.

And Government has the biggest problem for 22 out of the last 24 months. Yet, to the Democrat Ruling Political Class, Government is the altar at which they worship which is why not even a dollar can be eliminated from a budget – as Doug used to say “Every dollar is sacred”.

I just got through trying to school (AHgain) the moaning Collectivists over at TreeHugger again as to why they should reduce the size of Government because of big Bad Capitalist (actually, instructing them over what is capitalism vs Crony Capitalism – lonely work but hey, somebody’s gotta fight the fight, so why not me.  Also, it’s rather easy to get under their skin.  More posts on that activity later because I’m digressing….

What bugs me – and a lot of Conservatives – is that Republicans PREACH smaller government, and then never ACT to make it smaller, less intrusive, and less costly.  I would never say one should govern just on polling information, but when it does seem to align itself with the purported (I use that word because I don’t see them using them in governance) Republican Principles, one would think they’d glom onto it and ride on it.  You know:

If the NH Republican Party wants to win, and win Consistently, act like you believe in the Platform.  Speak like you do and at each and every turn.  Vote like you do at each and every opportunity.  And Legislate like there’s no tomorrow because two days ago was that “no more tomorrow” – and you blew it

And because they didn’t, they’re gonna get beat on like the proverbial dead horse.  They had their chance but decided to “keep their heads down and not make waves”.

No, that last part isn’t right – they actually helped to pass Democrat Agenda items – thus helping that “Government is the biggest issue” doohickey above. Stupid, stupid, stupid.  And now you know, once again, why that modifier belongs inbetween “The” and “Party”.
