Here in NH, most cable TV / ISP municipal agreements between towns and providers have been monopoly arrangements – one town, one cable provider. I’ve been fairly happy with my with respect to service and features (first Metrocast and now Atlantic Broadband) but the price is a bit steep. So, when I say this coming across my email, I thought “good – competition is ALWAYS a good thing”:
NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING
ON PROPOSED
CABLE TELEVISION FRANCHISE AGREEMENT
WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 9, 2019
7:00 P.M.
GILFORD TOWN HALL – 1ST FLOOR CONFERENCE ROOMThe Gilford Board of Selectmen will hold a public hearing pursuant to the provisions of RSA 53-C:3-a to consider a proposal from Comcast of Maine/New Hampshire, Inc. for a new 10 year cable television franchise to be in effect beginning in the year 2019. If approved, this cable television franchise will be in addition to the existing cable service franchise of Atlantic Broadband (formerly known as MetroCast).
Copies of the proposed cable television franchise agreement are available at the Selectmen’s Office and on the Town’s website (www.gilfordnh.org). Any interested person may attend this public hearing and present information and/or opinions related thereto.
I have to pay the excise tax on the Saab so I may stop into and get that proposal. I have no idea if I’d actually move as (I get 400MBs down right now and could go to 1GBs (it’s TMEW that’s hot and heavy on TV side of things – still trying to figure out what streaming packages so that we’d only get the networks we want). If I could do that, I’d dump the cable part and go full Gig speed in a heartbeat.
I do wonder, however, what Comcast would off and if AtlanticBB would match or surpass it? Comcast isn’t known for stellar customer services, though….
