Seriously, he’s just got to be funnin’ us all, right? And I bet he said the same thing about Havenstein and Brown, too:
“Kelly’s support among the Republican grassroots runs deep, and any suggestion to the contrary is obviously false,” said Steve Merrill, a former governor and chairman of Ayotte’s campaign. “She continues to deliver results for our state, and is a strong and capable voice for our party.”
Well, I can say without much agitation that Merrill isn’t talking to the same grassroots that I am – or others like me. Look, if the flippin’ Concord Monitor is seeing that not all is well in the NH GOP, there’s a problem. Really Steve, Kelly Ayotte voting to raise the cost of our standard of living (voting for the “screw you, free market” bill that mandates efficiency) on one hand, and as the piece points out, siding with Obama on his Clean Power Plan that will increase the cost of electricity on the other hand – thanks for the pincer movement, Kelly! And by supporting her, it seems that Steve Merrill thinks that the poor will be just dandy with this…
…and not to say, Kelly (and by proxy, Merrill again) shows quite the very UNRepublican view that Government is best at making decisions for us – and not we making them for ourselves. With this, they both show that we are just “the little people” – we must be “guided” to the “right” decisions and have Government close off “bad” decisions. In short, neither trusts us to make optimal decisions for ourselves. Oh, btw, is it now a Republican “feature” and “common sense” to continue to support Obama’s rocketing up the national debt – something that she promised to stop during her initial campaign?? Is this yet another campaign promise with an expiration date (just like you-know-who)?
Good to know – fiscally unconservative is now a plus. As (w/respect to the No Fly list) well as knowing that this former Attorney General thinks that due process just tinsel instead of a bedrock pillar of American jurisprudence (remind me never to hire her as a lawyer). Sounding more and more like Democrat-lite. How’d that work out for Brown and abortion, eh?
Good to see, too, that the reporter did well by picking a couple of folks that much better represent the grassroots than Merrill – Bob Clegg and Andrew Hemingway:
“I’m hearing a lot of people say they won’t vote for her,” said Bob Clegg, a former GOP state senator and president of Pro-Gun New Hampshire. “People are saying that Kelly Ayotte is not a good choice for the Republican Party.”
I’ve already said exactly that. Lie to me, lose my vote. And you did exactly that on something that is on my top tier list of issues. Remember, I don’t believe in the Gene Chandler definition of a Republican. And Andrew has the right of it:
“Kelly Ayotte takes the conservative base in New Hampshire for granted,” Hemingway said. “She just assumes ‘Oh, they have to vote for me.’ ”
Yes, this may well happen: Wooing middle, Ayotte risks losing the right. What’s the worst for Kelly is that she may be ignoring the recent political history here in NH and Merrill is a kissing cousin with Papa Smurf as well. Go ahead, ignore the base – you may learn the lesson of this past November up close and personal. Insult the base by ignoring the base; if we in the Liberty and Freedom wing of the Party feel that you are ONLY out for the win and not the “what is most important is what you do afterwards”, then perhaps the favor will be returned.
We have already decided that we no longer HAVE to vote for ANYONE. It is no longer an entitlement – it must be earned. And to be earned, you can’t consistently vote against the base’s Principles – but you have been doing just that.
So, go ahead, Kelly, Steve (and campaign manager Jon Kohan), I’ll give you have the chance to persuade me otherwise – but let’s be clear, you’re already well, well behind the 8 ball:
“(Ayotte) can’t win the election if she loses those people,” Fowler said.
Ayup.
