From the March 2015 of America’s Freedom (p.39, emphasis mine):
In the United States and other nations, more and more people are recognizing that victims have the best chance of survival when they can be the first responders.
First Responders. We usually think of these folks as heros – and they are, no doubt. But they are also Government employees – police, firemen, EMTs.. Nothing wrong with that – unless you feel that the role of first responder should only be government workers. However, that is the outlook of Progressives like Susan the Bruce (here, here) where in the real world when bad people go after nice ones, individuals are not to do anything – especially defend themselves. They are to outsource responsibility for themselves to others.
In government.
It is yet another startling, and I believe harmful, retreat from the “Can Do!” spirit that used to infuse American Society; that of self-sufficiency, self-reliability, and self-responsibility. Got a problem? There’s an app a Government program for that! It was never, for centuries, a foundational American mantra that we, as a society, when seeing something that had to be done, merely yawned in faux outrage “SOMEBODY ought to do something about this!” or “There ought to be a law!”. Instead, as de Toqueville wrote of his study of American society (and not, not its government) that one of our differentiators from Europe was that we, as individual citizens, voluntarily banded together to accomplish a task, and then “unbounded” when the task was over. In Europe, government did those kinds of tasks – and people there simply gave up doing that kind of things for themselves.
Susan the Bruce shows that same attitude – it is NOT up to an individual to take care of themselves in a bad situation, seemingly. In the case of a potential rape, she is adamant that ladies are to not equip themselves to help themselves. The only alternative she leaves them is to…well…merely the other silly nostrums like vomiting or soiling themselves. What else is left to combat some male that is larger, faster, and more muscular? No, it is clear from the comments she left here that there is nothing a woman can, or should, do.
This is Progressivism at its worst – denying a fundamental Right to self-defense. After, if Progressives are absolutely willing to leave you in a vulnerable position against a man, what else can be said? It is rather hypocritical in that the Progressives are always wailing about Power Superiority and the harm that is done with others abuse that, that THEY are the ones to rectify it, yet in this situation they simply will allow that power inequality to go one without an individual being able to equalize that inequality.
Inequality. I guess with Progressives it is only the inequalities they believe to be important.
Read in their own words what they believe is the Proper Role of Government – and it certainly isn’t one that is about lifting up individuals.
