And I blame Chair Jennifer Horn, the EBoard, Papa Smurf, and last century’s Republican leaders for setting the table for this absolute fiasco for happening. You caused a split in the caucus between Chandler and O’Brien and create that country lane that Shawn J(ass)per just sauntered up – with Deputy Dawg Shurtleff on one arm and Ray Buckley on the other (gawd, isn’t that a horrible visualization!). Yo, Jennifer, where is that UNITY you promised when you need it, eh? You appointed the top slots of the ticket and the base threw them away. Now, for the lack of UNITY that you promised, you get to oversee the worst split in the Republican caucus in a decade – nice legacy.
The Doug Scamman event and years are not looked upon very well – a little man that depended on the opposition party to steal his title from someone that was generally regarded as a good man (Mike Whalley, may he rest in peace). Now, another little man has followed in the footsteps of the Democrats to do the same thing – made a pact with the Devil and has double-crossed his Party simply to obtain power. And even WMUR has heard the calls of “WAR!”. Yeah, amen to that!
But there’s a wee problem that DiStaso recalled that will have reverberation – and Horn had better not monkey with it:
It appears newly-elected Speaker of the House Shawn Jasper does not meet the state Republican Party’s qualifications to serve on the party’s executive committee, a group of 36 party leaders who serve as a board of directors overseeing party operations and policy. A party bylaw says that the members of the executive committee includes “the Republican Leader of the New Hampshire House of Representatives, selected by a majority vote of the Republican caucus.” But since Jasper was not elected “by a majority vote of the Republican caucus,” and was elected by a coalition of mostly Democrats and some Republicans, he apparently does not qualify.
GOP sources said the by-law was changed after Doug Scamman in 2004 was elected Speaker by a coalition of Democrats and Republicans after he did not win the Republican House caucus.
Heh – and Bill O’Brien WAS elected to be the nominee by a majority vote of the Republican caucus – he SHOULD be able to take that seat on the Executive Board of the NH GOP. Oh, but wait – is there going to be a double double-cross event? Is Jennifer Horn about to remove that Doug Scamman rule?
State Republican Party Chairman Jennifer Horn, who backed House GOP caucus winner Bill O’Brien in the speaker’s race, said, “The bylaws outlining qualifications for serving on the Executive Committee will be discussed at our next meeting,” which is scheduled for Dec. 15.
Well, why not? She decided that the NH GOP’s top of the ticketers, Walt Havenstein and Scott Brown, would not have to be accountable to the Platform as voted in by the NH GOP Delegates – she issued an Executive Order (seemingly) that halted the updating the Platform until well after the election (but they paid for that move dearly). Now, she wants to do that scenario all over again?
Why bother to have rules when they change on a whim? Following Obama’s lead on this? In her case – arbitrarily change the By-Laws without input from the Delegates (or soon to be elected Committee members)? Lawlessness – good times, good times…
Oh, and the Democrat Party Ray “Bomb the Hague” Buckley? He makes clear that the Democrats OWN Shawn Jasper:
“I hope that Representative Shawn Jasper will not forget that he needed Democratic support to become Speaker, and that he will work with Governor Hassan to solve problems and move New Hampshire’s economy forward.
And that “do not forget” will hang over Shawn Jasper. But let us NOT forget that it is the Democrats that keep putting handcuffs (regulations) on that economy and more and more demands that Government be in CHARGE of that economy. Go ahead, Buckley – you own from this last session and if you are still in charge by virtue of crowning this “Republican” Speaker, well, you STILL own the NH economy – and any dismal results that come from it.
“(Tuesday’s) events make clear that the crisis in the New Hampshire Republican Party is far worse than we thought. After days of intra-party fighting, House Republicans decided to buck party leaders Kelly Ayotte and Jennifer Horn who worked behind the scenes to support Bill O’Brien’s divisive partisanship,” Buckley said.
No, it’s not worse – it just is. But I look at it this way – you just keep blaming the Establishment wing of the Republicans. Just maybe Papa Smurf will do something.
“While the first day of the House Republicans’ new majority resulted in total chaos, it is now time to build on the bipartisan spirit that prevented another O’Brien speakership and work across party lines to get results for New Hampshire’s people, businesses, and economy,” said Buckley.
Translation: Stupid Republican squishes got had again – aimless, no principles, they wandered – right into Buckley’s welcoming arms (an even worse visual). But this is another consequences of having bad candidates turned actual elected officials – working in concert, hand in hand, with our opposition.
And then the Establishment wonders why we who actually act in accordance to the Platform revile you all that don’t?
