Shaheen Backer Tom Steyer Was Still Profiting From Coal A Few Weeks Ago

Tom Steyer's dirty coal_handsTom Steyer has been pouring money into New Hampshire in support of Democrat Jeanne Shaheen.  He’s the Green energy global warming billionaire buying up the US Senate for Democrats.   Steyer is one of those evil banker types who made a chunk of his fortune investing in coal,  two strikes Democrats dismissed when he promised to spend $100 million or more on Democrat Senate campaigns, including our own Jeanne Shaheen.

This point comes home to New Hampshire again with a recent revelation that while Steyer’s PAC’s have been spending money attacking Democrat opponents on their support for cheap, affordable, and abundant energy we can actually use, Steyer continued to profit from investments in coal and gas.

A Steyer spokesperson claims Steyer asked to have those dirty coal investments divested

Neither Steyer nor his staff would provide the Post with documentation detailing the new guidelines for his Farallon portfolio.

If Wong’s characterization is accurate, Steyer is still profiting off of fossil fuel activity that many environmentalists, including the man who recruited Steyer into the movement and acts as his political adviser, insist is worsening global climate change.

Democrats are always meaning to limit themselves by their own “principles” but never managing to do so until they are caught exempting themselves from same.  Remember all those Democrat appointees (or even the more local variety-see also here) who thought they’d done their patriotic duty by paying their taxes?   How about John ‘I forgot to register my yacht in Massachusetts’ Kerry, who was willing to pay taxes in his own state after he got caught evading them?

Steyer’s declaration of good intentions will satisfy the beneficiaries of Steyer’s millions.  He means well.  It does not matter if he made millions on coal or gas or oil, or selling clubs for beating baby seals.   Indulgences can be acquired on the left like lottery tickets from a vending machine.  Crimes against nature (or any social or political contrivance) are easily forgiven in exchange for cash.

Under other circumstances this sort of thing is called a bribe.

If a police officer takes money to ignore an infraction, it is a crime.

If a Republican allows an unapproved energy company to keep more of the revenues it has legally earned, this is evil.

When Tom Steyer, billionaire investment banker, who made millions of dollars on coal and gas offers some of that money to Democrat Senators, he is a suddenly steward of the environment.

So what if he is buying Democrats to ensure easier profits, paid for by taxpayers, and funneled to rent-seekers like himself.  His intentions are good.  Good for Democrats and Steyer but no one else.

And it is all about money.  Nothing he or his stable of so-called green (as in greenbacks?) Democrats have planned will move the environmental meter one iota globally.  But it will knee-cap US industry and our ability to compete.  It will increase unemployment and expand the welfare state.  It will make electricity more expensive, not that the rich liberal elite would care.

The bottom feeding Liberals trapped on the dole, the beneficiaries of all that progressive empathy we hear so much about, either don’t know or don’t care that they will be hardest hit when the same agenda that their votes have advanced is hovering above them like the a boot over an ant.  And yet we on the right, fighting to keep or get them out from under the boot, are the haters?

This is the field of play.  Lives are at stake but Democrats are just interested in votes and money.

I do not bemoan Steyer his billions or dispute his right to spend it as he sees fit.  It is the Democrats political machine that we must defeat and even Steyer ought to know better.  One wrong move and they  would just a soon triple tax Steyer into penury for having “profited at the expense of the workers.”  Steyer could be the poster-child for those well heeled bankers the populist progressive commentariat and the Lands End sporting, iPhone using, drum-circle brick throwers love to hate.  And he could not, after all, have “build that.”  But Steyer is a Democrat, spending millions to keep the party of bigger government in power.

As long as he pours money into Liberal campaigns and New Hampshire elections the California Democrat might as well register to vote here from Shaheen’s Madbury, NH Home.  He’s family.
