200 Egg Rolls

“The mouth prays to Buddha, but the heart is full of evil.”—Vietnamese Proverb

Chinese Take-out Box-GovtMai Nhu Nguyen is…or was, an Immigration Officer in Santa Ana California.  She has been indicted on charges that she took $1,000 cash, $2,200 cash and two-hundred egg rolls as bribes from immigrants seeking citizenship and to fast-track green cards.

Arrested on June 6, Nguyen, an officer for U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services in Santa Ana was released on $20,000 cash bond, to be arraigned on July 1. Nguyen reviewed immigrant applications for benefits.  She was charged with three counts of solicitation of a bribe by a public official.

Several questions come to the fore…Were the alleged bribery egg rolls, vegetable, pork or shrimp? Did she get Soy Sauce with those Eggrolls?  Why not 400 Egg Rolls?

I guess we should feel really bad for this government employee. After all, they have really sucky benefits, low pay, bad working conditions and no Union to advocate for them, now don’t they? consider…the violin.
