…she made it to 99. We lost her almost two years ago.
Thanks for everything, Mom. I love you.
And so…that brings me to another subject.
Let’s talk about our society today. A society and culture in an age of narcissism….
Narcissus, you see, was a young man who fell in love with his own image reflected in a pool of water. Unable to tear himself away from it, he wasted away, his desire ever unsatisfied. Is that not a reflection of our society today in many ways? Where so many, so busy with themselves, so busy with work and “careers” that they can’t be inconvenienced by parenthood? Can’t be bothered to become mothers or fathers?
To young people today I say: You better watch out….
I tip my hat to the fascinating American Digest blog. In response to the above image, this may be said:
If you fail to have children, you deprive yourself of the the most seminal experience of being a human being. Sure it’s inconvenient. Sure it’s scary. Sure it’s expensive. Sure there’s heartbreak. And sure it’s otherwise worrisome. But don’t be stupid: What you receive in return is without price.
