ABC News is breaking a story by Jonathan Karl. It turns out there is a cover up and it’s bigger than suspected. Not only did the Administration know that the Benghazi attack was a terrorist attack and not due to any video, but the CIA also put out warnings about the terror threat in Benghazi before the attack. The State Department revised the Benghazi Talking Points used by the Administration to address the American public and media about the attack on the American Embassy in Benghazi on September 11, 2013. The State Dept. removed all references to Al-Qaeda and all references to CIA warnings of attack in Benghazi because of politics 12 revisions show. The Administration said initially that only one word had been changed and just this week Jay Carney White House Press Secretary stated that nothing substantive was changed. He lied.
The following paragraph was deleted entirely from the talking points. From ABC News (emphasis mine):
State Department spokesman Victoria Nuland raised specific objections to this paragraph drafted by the CIA in its earlier versions of the talking points:
“The Agency has produced numerous pieces on the threat of extremists linked to al-Qa’ida in Benghazi and eastern Libya. These noted that, since April, there have been at least five other attacks against foreign interests in Benghazi by unidentified assailants, including the June attack against the British Ambassador’s convoy. We cannot rule out the individuals has previously surveilled the U.S. facilities, also contributing to the efficacy of the attacks.”
Karl’s report continues regarding who deleted the report and why (again emphasis mine):
In an email to officials at the White House and the intelligence agencies, State Department spokesman Victoria Nuland took issue with including that information because it “could be abused by members [of Congress] to beat up the State Department for not paying attention to warnings, so why would we want to feed that either? Concerned …”
