There Are No Republicans For Obama

There are no Republicans for ObamaBack in 2008, and I may have shared this story before, I was discussing with a longtime friend my conclusion that then candidate John McCain was not really a ‘Republican.’  He could not understand why so I asked my baptist minister friend…”there are a lot of ‘interpretations’ of Christianity, and for the most part each is reasonably accepting of the others…but isn’t there a point at which what it is they are “practicing” is no longer Christianity?”  He said yes.  I said, “OK, same with being a “Republican.”

Believing in abortion, global warming, stifling paid political speech (to name a few) and…most importantly, the very strong belief that the federal government must regulate things from a central location, to mandate policy to the states and the people from on high….that is what progressives and socialists do, no matter what they call themselves.  That is not what it means to be a Republican.  We have a different party for people who think that way.  They are called Democrats.

But this serves as no barrier to entry.  You can register with any party you want, even run for office and get elected.  And let us not forget that the left operates by infiltrating institutions and rotting them out form the inside.  They do this on purpose.  And then there are the well meaning Republicans who go to Washington DC and get infected with the Georgetown flu.  They become progressives through constant exposure to the progressive culture of DC but never change their political label.

That happens in State capitals and in local towns and counties as well.  There will always be people who think they know better what is best for you and your family, and will use the force of law to enact their will upon you.

Here in New Hampshire, we’ve long had to cope with the waves of progressives that sweep up from Massachusetts thinking that they might be Republicans but who then vote like Democrats, either because they are Democrats or simply have no idea what it means to be a real Republican.

Let’s keep it as simple as we can.  To be a Republican you have to believe (at the very least) in individual liberty.  You must support and defend, first and foremost–before the state, the county or the town–this basic idea of freedom; the right to yourself, your labor, and the expression of property that extends from that labor, as well as your preeminent right to decide how best to use it.

We could list one-hundred things Obama believes that are incompatible with being a Republican but we need go no further than property rights and rule of law.    There is nothing in the Obama tool box that supports or defends the right to individual property or the right of the individual who earned it, to protection from the government.  There are also no legal guarantees to your property or to contracts, or to your right to own and operate a legal business under Obama and the Democrats.

To Obama and Democrats in general, property is a right that exists because of the government, and is extended to you by the government, and lasts only as long as the government sees no other need for it.  Law is no barrier.  Contracts are no barrier.  To Obama and the Democrat Party the government has the power to alter any and all legal arrangements to suit its agenda at its whim.

You didn’t build that.  The idea that when the government does not seize your legally acquired property (by not taxing it) they have done you a favor.  Screwing bond holders, shutting down car dealerships, picking and choosing winners and losers (which in Obama’s case all turned out to be losers).  The massive accumulation of trillions in debt…money (property) spent by the government that no one has even earned yet.  It goes on and on.  To Obama, and Democrats and progressives of all stripes, like ‘Republicans for Obama, ‘ you do not even have a right to your own person.  You exist to serve their needs, by force if necessary.  There is nothing before the government while these people rule.

These ideas are incompatible with Republicanism.  You cannot support them and retain claim to being a Republican.  You are something else.

So regarding the list of 100 current or former Republicans for Obama in New Hampshire let me remind everyone…there is nothing that Mr. Obama believes or stands for that is compatible with the Republican Platform (state of national).   And while these folks are free to call themselves whatever they like, they have reached a point at which what they are “practicing” politically, is no longer ‘Republican.’

There are no “Republicans for Obama,” only former Republicans.  But thanks for letting us know who they are (not that we didn’t already know a few of them already.)
