Yesterday, Steve wrote about William Jefferson Clinton coming to Nashua to endorse Maggie Hassan. In it, he showed Andrew Hemingway’s 4RG video of the endorsement, where Clinton messed up and used Jackie Cilley’s last name (the other candidate!). There is simply no good explanation or excuse for this.
Democrats around the state are now trumpeting the magnificence of Hassan and her campaign, what with a former President swinging (driving) by to heap praise on their candidate. You’ve gotta feel bad for these people, grinning through a grimace, being real troopers, in spite of this embarrassing display of Presidential pretension and blunder. All that effort and they can only show still photos of the event – no audio – no video!
Well, let me make it hurt some more.
Do you remember December 19, 1998? I do. It was the day that Bill Clinton became the first, and only, elected president to be impeached (indicted) by the US House of Representatives (of course Andrew Johnson succeeded Lincoln but was not elected), under Article I, sections 2 and 3, and Article II, section 4, of the US Constitution. Do you also recall that he ordered a bombing strike on Iraq, the very day before the impeachment vote was to take place?
The grounds for impeachment in the Constitution are stated as: “treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors“. Clinton’s high crimes were perjury and obstruction of justice. Pretty slick, Willie.
Yet, here we are, observing Democrat, progressive, and liberal supporters of Maggie Hassan-Cilley, gushing at the endorsement, some fourteen years after Clinton perjured himself during a deposition, and influenced the testimony of others, over the claim that he had “sexual relations” with intern Monica Lewinski.
In the end, Clinton used the following description of “sexual relations”, which he concluded involved providing oral sex, but not receiving it (apologies for the graphic description….historical accuracy counts):
“For the purposes of this deposition, a person [the deponent, in this case, Clinton] engages in sexual relations when the person [Clinton] knowingly engages in or causes:
1. Contact with the genitalia, anus, groin, breast, inner thigh, or buttocks of any person [that is, any other person, in this case, Monica Lewinsky] with an intent to arouse or gratify the sexual desire of any person [Lewinsky];
Contact means intentional touching, either directly or through clothing.”
With all the talk about Republicans’ War on Women, I find it amazing that a female candidate, for the office of Governor of New Hampshire no less, could stomach having Bill Clinton not only endorse her, but be in the same room, shake his hand, and receive a peck on the cheek as he arrives.
I guess it’s the price that Progressives, like Maggie, are willing to pay, in the pursuit of global domination.
