Both revenues and spending have trended upward over the last 50 years, but almost always, spending has risen faster than revenues. Much faster.
We always seem to hear it’s a revenue problem – we just don’t have the revenue to support our spending (as one REPUBLICAN said, determining the Belknap County – which seems to be even truer in DC). Sure, revenues had hits because of the economy. But those we have elected to manage the spending have managed to NOT manage – we’ve been two years without a valid budget out of Congress (thanks Harry Reid!).
Most rational people would have said "less money? less spending!" but not this crew that has seemingly not gotten the message: its OUR money, not yours.
