Often, the claim is made that Islamofacists hate us because we are occupying their land – and neo-isolationists would have us believe that if we simply pulled out of Islamic countries (among others), peace and kumbaya would break out, and we could all just break bread together instead of heads and other body parts.
I am of the other argument – it is not where we are but what we stand for: the Right for an individual to decide for themselves how to live their lives, "endowed by our Creator with certain inalienable Rights".
Seems like this fundamentalist Muslim Sheik ain’t down with the Founding Fathers (and American pop culture):
Even the freedoms–what are they? Among the freedoms inherent in the democratic system are freedom for women, freedom of ownership, freedom of homosexuality, personal freedom, freedom of conscience and expression, freedom to disbelieve in the Creator of Heaven and Earth. There’s mixing (of men and women), usury–all of this is in democracy, which is why I condemn it.

That is why they hate us – over our freedom and what it stands for.
This is why we are the Great Satan.
They do seem to have the freedom within Islam to hate us for that…
