From a policy speech at the BipartisanPolicy.org, #2 Democrat guy, Steny Hoyer keeps making the same mistake that many on the Left keep repeating:
“America is not broke,” Hoyer said at the Bipartisan Policy Center in Washington, D.C.. “America has extraordinary resources and we can use those resources, both intellectual and financial, to get us to a place where we are again a fiscally sound nation, a fiscally balanced nation, and future generations are not at risk.”
Right. Given that we are over $14 Trillion in debt (with about $106 Trillion in outstanding liabilities as the Govt is on the hook for future payments), we are already at 100% GDP debt. Hey, Steny! One word for you; Greece!
But that’s not the problem. Over and over again, I keep hearing that we are a rich nation. No, we’re not – putting aside the fact that you your fellow sojourners that we have elected have spent us down the drain, you keep stumbling on this.
It is not that we are a rich nation, we are a nation of rich individuals – even when you consider our poor (compared to the real poor of the world). When Democrats and Socialists like make the pronouncement, they truly believe that your money IS the nation’s money – and therefore, they are entitled to use it anyway they see fit. Ipso facto – we are merely ATMs.
And that IS the problem – they are failing to recognize that they are to be good stewards of other peoples money. And that is the major reason why the TEA Party movement exists – they have failed in that responsibility.
Oh yeah – and that pols like Hoyer (and Republicans, too) are in denial about their spending addiction.
