Many folks out there are disgusted with the results of public education – overpriced and underdelivering. Scores are tailing downward, students aren’t well prepared for higher education or industry, and parents are noticing the emphasis on social issues over academic excellence; zooming growth rates in new charter schools, private schools, and homeschooling are the results (i.e., parents are noticing the lack of results and are voting with their educational dollars).
Liberty Harbor Academy is a new high school in Portsmouth, NH; their Mission Statement:
Liberty Harbor Academy nurtures students toward their noblest character and greatest potential – intellectually, morally, and spiritually. This, in the classical tradition, is its own end, and essential for the flourishing citizen in a free society; therefore occupational destination and personal success is natural and consequential. Through a thorough understanding of human nature and a richness of daily interaction toward this common purpose, Liberty Harbor graduates self-confident, self-actualized individuals with lifelong curiosity, creativity, magnanimity, and independence of thought in the firm belief that only thus can the "inalienable rights of Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness" be lived and experienced in a sustainable and just manner.
