Random thoughts – WI, unions, and taxes; another take

by

The teachers and all of the other union members in WI are demonstrating against what they see as an assault on their take home pay (never taking into account that their demands will result in lower take home pay for taxpayers).  However, let me ask this against the backdrop of what the union bosses see as the most egregious offense of all (even as they refuse to talk about it):

That the State will no longer allow for automatic withdrawal of union dues from union member State paychecks.

Certainly, the union bosses understand the power of "funds unseen"; sure the number is there on the stub that the union member will never have, but what isn’t in the checking account is "not missed".  The politicians are willing to take this advantage away from the union bosses (automatically getting their members money for their political purposes) and now forcing them to have to go GET that money directly.  My question is this:

If they are willing to allow union members to write checks to the unions, why won’t they do the same for taxpayers and forgo automatically withdrawal for taxes?  Are they willing to eschew the automatic tax withdrawals from ALL workers’ paychecks?

Or do they truly realize the value of "funds unseen" plays to THEIR advantage and THEIR spending, and are playing a "Fine for me but not for thee" .

After all, think of the effect it would have on taxpayers to finally actually have that money in their accounts – but then have to turn around send a check to Government.

What would the effect be on Government spending then?
