Here in NH, tax caps are fairly common in the news. For readers in other states for which this may be unknown (think Illinois, California, or New York), these legal instruments put into place by votes of the general citizenry of the various local governments that limit the growth of spending by elected officials.
Why? Because the voters have come to expect that local politicians, not matter what is said during campaigns, will just turn around and screw them with higher taxes. It is a matter of trust.
Perhaps we should apply that to the Federal level?

The Federal Debt ceiling is established by votes by Federal legislators. Think of it this way: you’re about to start a diet, but MAN, that Prime Rib sound just so delicious. "Hey, YOU’RE offering to pay tonight? Great! I’ll start tomorrow…" And tomorrow never comes.
And the debt keeps going up. Why not – who’s to stop them? Promises and promises – the debt goes up. Perhaps it is time for voters to say "Enough!"
