Once the elite high school in Washington, D.C., Dunbar High is out of control, reports the Washington Post.
Nearly half the senior class is not on track to graduate, more than 100 students are taking courses they’ve already passed and the campus is growing increasingly unsafe.
Oh Wait! He DIDN’T! Mea Culpa! That was actually from Joanne Jacobs. Rather, it was concerning my statement:
It isn’t that every child is entitled to a public education, it should be that every child should have a publicly funded eduction.
His statement right off the bat, in protecting the current status quo was:
What about the family that then takes that money and just blows it on a vacation?
My response is (and remains):
And DC (and New York, and Chicago and L.A., and others) are doing anything BETTER than just blowing the money?
it seems that there is never a less expensive way to have Government deliver services. It is about protecting what is in place – after all, THEY are the professionals!
And from my friend, Warner Todd Huston, was this tidbit. Even the Professionals (at least in Chicago) send their kids NOT to the Public Schools (that they defend their budgets so vociferously) but to private ones. 40%, in fact, send their kids to private schools. Hypocrites all!
