(having said it a sufficient number of times in the past): "Swimmers, take your mark!" But that was then, and now, it is no longer the swimmers’ blocks, let the Horse Race begin!
Four Gates – and who will be there at the start? Now that Gov. Sununu has made it official (and yes, I was one who was agitating for the clarity to appear; now that it has, we here at the ‘Grok pay our respects and offer our thanks
Now we come to the last leg, Belmont Stakes, of the GOP Triple Crown here in NH (where the Nov 2 WipeOut was the Kentucky Derby, the Preakness was Bill O’Brien becoming the NH Speaker. Right now there seem to be four:
- Juliana Bergeron (Cheshire County GOP Chair)
- Jim Foley (Derry GOP Chair)
- Jennifer Horn (Congressional candidate from Nashua and a favorite among the TEA Party / "Liberty and Freedom" wing of the party)
- James Sununu (son of current Chair, Gov. Sununu)
I’ve heard a couple of other whispers about a coupla / few other folk, but the above seem to be the main names I keep hearing.
Who will be the first out of the gate? Depends on who or what you believe to be the most influential here in NH. Does Bergeron still have the nod of the Guv (as I had heard he first said that name), or does that dynamic change with the son? Frankly, I just don
I did have to chuckle when I read DiStaso’s column – does Jim Foley believe that bucking all the way into the gate a winning strategy?
Foley said candidly that "there are also an element of the party that doesn’t think I’m a good Republican," so he would face opposition, and, "I don’t feel like getting into a war."
Sometimes, some horses just don’t wanna get locked into the box and just don’t wanna go. Of course, with a reputation of being (shall I be kind?) a tad autocratic and of the "moderate persuasion", and "I don’t feel like getting into a war", I just think Jim Foley may have already picked a fight even as he plays the reluctant pacifist.
Well, once again, I go back to the Seacoast Republican Women’s "Post Election Panel" – is this really the year of the L&F wing? If this is the case, Jennifer Horn may be the leader coming ’round the first bend.
But a horse race has to go around the whole track – but the trumpet call is now just sounding as the track has finally been cleared…
