From Concord, NH to Washington, DC a new political age is dawning. The Tea Party movement has made it clear that the old, corrupt way of "politics as usual" will no longer be tolerated. On the national scene we see tomorrow’s legislative leadership emerging in the Republican Party: Jim DeMint from South Carolina, Pat Toomey from Pennsylvania, Marco Rubio from Florida, Rand Paul from Kentucky, and many others.
New Hampshire has its own new emerging legislative leaders: Dan Itse, Carol McGuire, Bob Mead, Jennifer Coffey, Steve Stepanek, Paul Mirski, and many others. Assisting them all in bringing forth a New Republican Party is Rep. Bill O’Brien, candidate for Speaker of the State House of Representatives….
I know Rep. O’Brien well. We have worked on legal cases together, including co-counseling a case at trial that eventually went to the state Supreme Court. It is clear that he is the type of leader the New Republican Party in New Hampshire needs.
Our state—like our nation—is facing huge fiscal problems, brought to us by irresponsible, overspending Republicans as well as Democrats over the past years. There is now general recognition that "it has to stop." From the ashes of the "old politcs" is now arising a New Republican Party that will lead with new ideas, new solutions, and new strategies to correct the myriad problems we face.
Because the old political calculations no longer work, the New Republican leadership must understand and utilize the bedrock principles of free enterprise, smaller government, reduced taxes, controlled spending and personal responsibility. Such leaders must take the helm of the New Republican Party.
On November 18th Republican members of the state House representatives will hold their caucus in Concord. They must elect a New Republican leader to become the new Speaker of the House.
In the State of New Hampshire, Bill O’Brien is that man.
