Progressives tell the lie that Capitalism is a form of Morality; it is not

Many on the Left, the Progressives and the Socialists, wish to do away with capitalism.  Always, they run down the excesses of the capitalistic system and that it does not treat all people fairly.  They lie.

Their goal is to get YOU to believe as they do: that our capitalistic economic system is the same as a moral system.  They decry inequity in that some seem to benefit more than others.  They decry and infer that Capitalists only benefit by screwing over the poor.  Thus, they say that capitalism is a failed moral system because of this and MUST be thrown away and be replaced by one that is guided by technocrats that dispassionately decide what needs to be done by who and how much to have an ‘efficient society’.  And this is different from fascism (another name for state corporatism) – how?

Failed moral system?  The whole premise is wrong from the get go – they just don’t want you to question it.  They want you to believe that…

…Capitalism is immoral but Government is a plus perfect morality incarnate. Once they can convince enough people that our economic system is a moral system, we are doomed.  Economics is hard to argue; morality (right and wrong) is easier.

The flaw is because capitalism isn’t a moral system.  It never was.  It never will be. Capitalism is not a moral system but certainly depends on those participating in it to possess a "good" moral system for it to be effective.  And yes, I believe that a good moral system is that of our Judeo-Christian heritage; the Ten Commandments are a good start (for one example).  An absolute value system, as opposed to a relativistic and secular one, generally can be dependent on maintaining right from wrong and determining better values from lesser values.  Progressivism, however, wishes us to believe, as a society, the opposite and conflate the two (just as many conflate Government programs and actions as Charity – yet another falsehood).

Capitalism, simply put, is:

  • a voluntary transaction (unless otherwise modified, regulated, or demanded by Government) between two individuals.  I only give you money for something that I want and at a price I deem either fair or advantageous to ME.  You will only sell that service or good at a price you deem either fair or advantageous to YOU.  Nothing more, nothing less.
  • a way to create wealth – to expand the economic pie (a lesson that Progressives have never learned, even as some of them become enriched by it).

Morality is its foundation inasmuch as we offer something that is true (e.g., not counterfeit) for something else that is true; the value of the offerings on both sides of the transaction are valid and fulfill the promise of the offering and acceptance.  Morality is what is internal to ourselves – our guide, our internal compass.  It is what demands of ourselves to offer what is true – versus cheating on the transaction. A true moral path demands that we honor our promises to deliver the right value (on either side of the transaction) at the agreed upon time.

But morality is far, far more than just honoring a transaction.  In the larger sense, it is how we interact with others, and with our God. It really defines not only our interactions with others but can define what each of us does with our wealth earned from our transactions in the economy.  And that is what Progressives / Socialists wish to take away from us – the ability to decide for ourselves what to do with our wealth

Cam DeJong said it well when he was on GrokTALK! with us; he said that Conservatives "believe in people". We believe that people can do the right thing in a voluntary manner with their freedom of choice. Conservatives believe in self-responsibility and limited government; tied together, it forces a morality for us, internally and of our free will, to be responsible to help others.  Progressives would have you believe the opposite

By framing Capitalism with Morality, they try to make the case of a superior value. By framing the discussion of the generation of wealth and that Conservatives are cold-hearted, selfish, and without care for our fellow men, they attempt to change the discussion. Their morality demands of themselves that the ordinary citizen is not sufficiently motivated or "evolved"; thus, people will not make the right decisions.  Thus, Progressivism demand that Government must guide and enforce how that wealth is to be channeled to an acceptable designation and purpose OF THEIR DESIGN (and not the individual).

And in doing so, destroy the fruits of capitalism and trade them for the controls of Socialism.  Capitalism IS of the individual; socialism IS of the collective.

So, ask yourself: you want to be herded?
