Hey! All you freshmen state reps! You know those cool new license plates you’ve been issued?

They have to actually be installed on your vehicles, you know…both front and back, too. Kind of a pain to have to get out there with pliers and screwdrivers and stuff, right? Not to worry: I have a solution for you….

It’s really quick and easy too. And if you take me up on it, you’ll get to meet one of the best up-and-coming state representatives in the NH House, Rep. John Hikel of Goffstown and Weare (both next to Manchester). John’s a gifted auto mechanic (in a past life, he was a rock music promoter, and was personal friends with various famous, glittering rock stars…but that’s another story). He owns and runs an auto repair shop in Goffstown. That’s a picture of him over on the left, when he wasn’t in his mechanic overalls….

I’ve got a personal history with Rep. Hikel’s auto shop. When I first brought my 3/4 ton, 4×4, jacked-up pick-up to him, it had been worked on several times by other mechanics…and the damned thing still wasn’t fixed. Rep. Hikel took it personally in hand, called me up a day or two later, and said "It was the O2 sensor. It’s running like a top now."

Just like that! This guy is a car-genius. "We can fix anything," he said as we stood in his cluttered mechanic’s office. "Engine, transmission, power-train, shocks, tires, heating, AC, you-name-it." With the engine finally fixed on my own vehicle, he’d made a believer out of me.

Rep. Hikel runs Uptown Auto Repair, a little mechanic’s shop at 578 Mast Road in Goffstown (you can call him there at 603-625-8026). His business blurb says "Foreign and Domestic, Established 1990," and his customers love him.

However…what’s really cool is Hikel’s political philosophy. Having just been elected to his second term, he’s one of the up-and-coming New Republicans in the State House. And from the outset he was one of the stronger supporters of the popular new Speaker, Bill O’Brien. Hikel sometimes quotes from the Founding Fathers, too. Take this, for instance; it’s a quote that appeared on one of his recent emails:

"The spirit of resistance to government is so valuable on certain occasions, that I wish it to be always kept alive. It will often be exercised when wrong, but better so than not to be exercised at all. I like a little rebellion now and then." —Thomas Jefferson

In short, Rep. Hikel is a really good…both as a mechanic and as a state representative.

But I digress! Here’s what I wanted to tell you: John Hikel recently told me that he’ll do a "free special-license-plate installation" for any newly elected member of the State House of Representatives. If you call him at his shop number above, you can schedule a time to come by and—voila!—you’ll have your cool new license plates securely and expertly installed. Free!

Can’t beat that for a deal! (And, my apologies to John, but…I hope he gets inundated by all the New Republicans. Let’s all call him, show up, and make him sorry he made the offer! LOL!)
