Remember this the next time your School Board is negotiating with your local Teachers Union…

The state-appointed authority overseeing Buffalo public school finances says taxpayer-covered cosmetic surgery rung up by the city’s teachers totaled nearly $9 million in 2009.

The Buffalo Fiscal Stability Authority reports that last year’s costs for such elective procedures as chemical peels and other skin treatments are up $8 million over the 2004 tab for cosmetic surgery provided under the teachers’ union contract.

School district officials say teachers or their dependents accounted for 90 percent of the approximately 500 people who received cosmetic surgery last year. About 10,000 district employees are eligible for the benefit.

The president of the teachers’ union says the union has agreed to give up the benefit in the next contract.

Ten percent unemployment, and you’re paying for public employees to get nose jobs. I’m glad the union says that they’ve agreed to give up the benefit, but my guess is that they’re only sorry that people found out about what was going on.

So, when Teachers are hootin’ an hollerin’ that we all have to fork over more money because "it’s for the children", ask them: "and this is associated with teaching our children reading, writing, and ‘rithmatic – how??"

Don’t kid yourself – this is not about Jimmy and Janie.  This is power and money and advantage.  Too often, those opposite the teachers are the ones that are cold-hearted and callous; isn’t this being rather callous with or about taxpayer money, given the current economic conditions?  Elite government workers with benefits far better than we in the private sector…

Oh, did I mention that the Teachers’ unions are amongst the biggest campaign donors and workers for the Democrats to get them elected?  Who then are the ones doing the negotiating with the teachers’ union?

Nice work, when you can get it…
