… that demands a debate when it concerns political campaigning. Here in NH Senate District 2, Fran Wendelboe, the long term political insider in the House for the last 9 years, may be showing signs of angst:
"Voters have the right to see the two of us together in a public format and be able to question us both at the same time about important issues," Wendelboe wrote.
Hardly. I had the chance to run up and see part of Jeanie’s talk to the Pemi-Baker Valley Republican Committee a while ago – and there was Fran, larger than life, sitting up near the front. It seems, from incoming reports, that Fran often seems to show up where Jeanie Forrester has been invited to speak – and that is seemingly the only time that "the locals" have seen her lately. Trust me, it was very easy to see that both the speaker and sitter were in the house.
When Forrester didn’t respond by Wednesday night, Wendelboe wrote, "It is apparent you are afraid for voters to see us one on one," and accused Forrester of "attempting to dodge and avoid voters being able to compare us head to head."
Not really – Fran, has Jeanie asked you why you keep following her all over? Frankly not, it probably isn’t a problem that you may be trailing behind all the time.
"We put together a campaign strategy in January that includes forums, events, direct mail," Forrester said. "We have so many activities scheduled between now and the primary, and a debate’s never been anything we’ve talked about in terms of our campaign strategy."
The mark of a good biz person – lay out the strategy, come up with the tactics, create the project plan – and then execute it and not be distracted by red herrings.
It seems that Fran is a step late and is perhaps just now realizing that by touching base with the local base ONLY during campaign season has left a huge hole for someone who HAS been taking care of business to step in. Decisions have consequences (like "ransoming" 25% of the JUA money?) and failure to take care of the locals back home while cavorting in Concord may be reaping a bitter harvest come September….
