Red Box Review: Battleship

battleshipLet’s keep it simple.  Battleship is only good when there are ships and there is a battle.  So skip to just before the combat begins, anything that happened in the first 30-40 minutes or so you can work out for yourself by the end, and the battle sequences are a lot of fun to watch.  If you try to sit through the set up you’ll never make it to the good part.  And it was good.  Almost as if it were a different movie.

When you see the objects hurtling toward the earth’s atmosphere, that is probably the best place to start.

If you’ve got premium channels, by the way, the movie is currently available there as well (HBO I think), and worth the DVR space, assuming you skip the beginning.

He then proceeds to ask, how, in this economic environment, the same University system that cannot control costs, that begs for more and more taxpayer bailouts, can still afford to spend an estimated 6.5 Million dollars per year for professors to take paid sabbaticals that could last up to a year in length?

Lots of things oozed from the late 20th century liberals into this century, and many are mistakenly celebrated.  Some haven’t really undulated throughout society filling in all of the seams.  They’re still settling as all of those affected aren’t quite aware of the same rules.

For example:  Imagine you’re a late 20th Century feminist liberal all keen on burning bras and inhibitions, bringing home the bacon, frying it up in the pan and never ever letting him think he’s a man because you’re the woman.  So, you pluck the jewels, tuck them into your purse, and be on your way.  You’re in charge.  He’s an accessory you can live without.

I was just reading Scott’s post about the chickens of modern day feminism coming home to roost and it occurred to me;  the video of the young man that dodged the ball that then modified the face of  his date is a perfect example of how the left wants us all to behave.

I’ll call this “Life imitates Democrat legislation.”  Do tell?

A Majority of New Hampshire House Democrats and (three Republicans), just voted to ensconce into state statute the very thing that this young man just did by voting to repeal stand your ground.  If you can retreat…do so. He did. She took it right in the face.

The progressives don’t want you to take responsibility.  They do not want you to exercise your judgment.  You are not allowed to think.  Run away!  Someone from the government will get there just as soon as they can.

House Republican Leaders Comment on Passage of Fiscally Irresponsible Budget

CONCORD – House Republican Leader Gene Chandler (R-Bartlett) and Ranking Republican on the House Finance Committee, Rep. Neal Kurk (R-Weare), offered the following comments in reaction to the passage of HB1 and HB2, the bills dealing with the State budget.

“When 40,000 people in our State are looking for work, this budget will squeeze an additional $39 million out of our small businesses that they would have otherwise been able to reinvest to grow and create jobs. When incomes are stagnant, this budget raises the gas tax, tobacco taxes and down shifts costs that will raise property taxes. When our roads and bridges need attention, this budget diverts and additional $27 million from the highway fund to other agencies. When our economy is struggling to grow at 2% per year, this budget grows government by more than 5% per year. It’s not a logical plan to grow our economy.”

Public Educators Caught in Massive Cheating Conspiracy

Public Educators in Atlanta have been caught in a massive cheating conspiracy designed to hide poor reading and math skills.  “The four principle crimes that are charged in the indictment are the statements and writings, false swearings, theft by taking, and influencing witnesses,” Fulton County District Attorney Paul L. Howard, Jr. said.

Racketeering charges are also being filed.

Nearly 200 educators admitted to taking part in the massive scandal: they tampered with students’ standardized tests and corrected answers to inflate scores. Some teachers had pizza parties to erase wrong answers and circle in the right ones. One principal allegedly handled altered tests wearing gloves to avoid leaving her fingerprints.
