Notable Quote – Charles C.W. Cooke

“…government does not cease to be destructive because the men in charge carry an “R” after their names, and the willingness of many conservatives to abandon principles the very moment that they wrapped their grubby hands around the levers of power has contributed to a reasonable suspicion that the Right’s objection to the use of … Read more

Windham School Board Incumbents Ousted

Windham NHMaybe the people of Windham got tired of all the negative publicity from their school board?   Banning Dodgeball and walking that back.  Refusing US Constitutions an walking that back.   Or it might have been the almost arrest of a resident trying to give public comment before a vote to accept a massive $577,000.00 dollar no bid contract without public comment.  Whatever the reasons, two incumbent school board members were swept out of office last night and replaced, one of them by the guy they tried to intimidate when they called the police.

(Windham Patch) Two incumbent Windham School Board members were bested at the polls on March 10, 2015, by solid margins, according to the unofficial school race results.

Dover Plans to Vote on Bearcat Grant Tonight

LENCO Bearcat.2Surprise! No warning.  No public input yet.  Maybe y’all can fix that last part?

c/o Eric Catman on Facebook

Dear Dover area friends,

I am writing to ask that you take a quick action this evening to promote transparency and dialogue in Dover city government.

We learned today that the Dover Police Department has been awarded a grant by the Department of Homeland Security for the purchase of an armored vehicle. The matter is now before the City Council whose members plan to vote on the matter tomorrow (Wednesday) evening. There has been no opportunity for public input to the question of who really benefits from Dover’s acquisition of this vehicle, commonly referred to as the Bearcat. Would you please send a message to the Dover Mayor and City Council asking that they delay this vote until members of the community have had an opportunity to be heard?

Send an email to the full Council using this address:
CityCouncil-All@dover.nh.gov

Below is the message I just sent which you can use as a template.

GrokTALK! at Liberty Forum with Ian Underwood

It’s always great to have Ian Underwood joins us and this was no exception.  We’ve got the Shaolin Rifleworks, the serenity of self-defense, the lefts lack of limiting principles, Senator David Pierce (again) this time encapsulating the violence of progressive government; then a great discussion about principles vs outcome.

Salem Safety Complex Fails

salemNHsignsm
The taxpayers in Salem, New Hampshire rejected a 23 million dollar bond to fund a new Safety Complex.  We reported on the situation in Salem back on February 23rd.

There is one dissenting selectman who is concerned about the process, the cost, the lack of enough open debate, and the refusal to seriously consider cheaper alternatives….

As has become the habit of local boards of late debate becomes a one-sided affair and the rules are changed to protect the people from dissenting voices.  But! have the  Salem Mahalists, the Taj-a-goo goo’s if you like, done something in their zeal in violation of the law?

The violation was a matter of paid advocacy for the measure by four of the five selectman, using the town seal on their missive, and posting it on public property.

Jonah Goldberg – On The Start of Hillary’s “No Ceiling” Tour

Act well your part…. (NRO) On Monday, Hillary had a “No Ceilings” event at the Clinton Foundation. After her opening remarks, the Associated Press reported, she declined to take any questions. “When she sat down to lead more informal conversations with invited speakers, participants appeared to be reading from teleprompters.” I’ll give the AP reporters … Read more

Rich Girard on Right to Know

Kimberly will probably post the entire article up here at some point but seeing as the vote is tomorrow I wanted to quote Rich Girard (from the article) regarding HB 646 and right to know.

If cases of abuse were really running rampant, we’d hear more than just the anecdotal evidence of some spectacular infraction. The fact is, nobody has quantified the number, seriousness or “cost” of the infractions. The other fact is, the government entities that have to be asked for public information are the ones who create the information and file it. How else are we to obtain but to ask? Frankly, it’s their job to provide the information and, as a taxpayer, I’ve already paid for that job to be done.

Stripper Sues ‘Naked Dating’ for Failing to Satisfy Oral Agreement.

Stripper sues Naked Dating Show for failing to satisfy oral agreement.  Judge tosses case.

(Jessie) Nizewitz, 28, filed the complaint in New York Supreme Court last August, alleging she “suffered and continues to suffer severe extreme emotional distress, mental anguish, humiliation and embarrassment” from having her private parts broadcast to a national audience.

Because everyone knows that strippers oppose broadcasting their private parts for money.

In reaction to the lawsuit, the defendants including Lighthearted Entertainment and Firelight Entertainment said that the former stripper was once comfortable with the show’s premise. Before casting her, producers made her consent to being filmed in the nude and allow the footage to be telecast without restriction. “Unfettered nudity,” said the producers, “was a crucial aspect of the program.”

Solar Sucks

ivanpah
If solar doesn’t’ work in the desert… $1.6 Billion for less than half the promised power at three times the promised price.

From The Taxpayer Protection Alliance (TPA), a study out on solar subsidies: “Filling the Solar Sinkhole: Billions of Bucks Have Delivered Too Little Bang.”

In spite of government’s best efforts to encourage innovation by solar energy companies and encourage Americans to rely more heavily on solar electricity, solar power continues to be a losing proposition. American taxpayers spent an average of $39 billion a year over the past 5 years financing grants, subsidizing tax credits, guaranteeing loans, bailing out failed solar energy boondoggles and otherwise underwriting every idea under the sun to make solar energy cheaper and more popular.

(March 10, 2015) – Citizens for a Strong New Hampshire is launching a microsite today. It highlights the lack of transparency found in Governor Maggie Hassan’s corner office as she refuses to respond to multiple Right-to-Know requests or hold a single Town Hall meeting with her constituents. It also discusses her fiscally irresponsible budget proposal that mismanages priorities, increases spending, and raises taxes and fees on Granite State families and small businesses.

HB 646 – Judiciary Committee Punches Transparency In the “Nuggets”

Hassan has to return another illegal contribtionBy a vote of 14-4 the NH House judiciary committee voted to advance HB 646, an act making it legal for public bodies to collect a bribe in exchange for public documents.

In the House Calendar we have Democrat David Woodbury (Danger Will Robinson Danger!!) speaking for the majority in favor of passage on a committee with a majority of Republicans.   Woodbury claims…”This bill threads the needle between an individual’s right to free and full access to public records and the taxpayer’s right to be free from bearing the substantial costs of unreasonable or abusive document retrievals.

The Real Republican™ on this issue, Rep Michael Sylvia — speaking for those paltry few on the committee opposed to the bill observed that… “The committee heard from a number of public bodies reporting stories of abusive requests under 91-A; missing from these stories was any substantive example of an abusive request.

Even if there are such a thing as an abusive request for public documents the solution is not to let the public body set the price or decide who must pay it.
