Unsuspecting Rubes Celebrate Vladimir Lenin

Earth DayIn 1955 Nikita Khrushchev proclaimed Vladimir Lenin’s birthday both a national Soviet holiday and a day “for cleaning the streets of garbage, fixing public amenities, collecting recyclable material, and other community services.”

In 1970 early eco-warriors–with entirely incidental socialist tendencies–“accidentally” absconded the identical date for Earth Day in the US.  In true leftist fashion the now global “celebration” known as Earth Day uses the power of the Sorelian myth to organize the proletariat to action.

Welcome to the collective comrade.  April 22nd it the Socialist subbotnik in celebration of Vladimir Lenin.
