How Will NH Democrats React to this News: November Revenue Doubles State Surplus

I’m curious how the Democrat Drama Queens (and I mean that with the utmost respect) will take the latest fiscal news for the Great State of New Hampshire? Revenues from November have doubled the state’s surplus, according to the New Hampshire Fiscal Policy Institute (NHFPI). That means those awful, horrible, anti-(insert random noun) Republican business tax … Read more

Language Log: Political Correctness and the Use/Mention Distinction

Auguste Rodin’s “The Thinker”The distinction between use and mention is too often ignored and worth a detailed look. Language Log has an excellent article on the topic that begins with this.

Professor Donald Hindley was recently found guilty of racial harassment by Brandeis University for statements that he made in his Fall 2007 Latin American Studies course. The case is discussed in this report by the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education, and in a number of blog posts, including this one by Margaret Soltan and this one by Eugene Volokh. Criticism of Brandeis is based in part on what appears to have been an egregiously unfair process, and in part on the nature of the charges against him.

Hottest Day Recorded By State Refutes Climate Cult’s Mann-Made Global Warming

Hot WeatherTampering with the temperature record is one of many ways the rent-seekers in the Climate Cult keep the gravy flowing, but there are a lot of records. Here’s one, compiled at infoplease.com sourced from the National Climate Data Center in Ashville, NC, showing the hottest recorded day in every U.S. state by year.

If the doomsayers are correct, we should see a frightening number of states with their hottest days ever recorded in recent decades. But we don’t.

Climate Change Removed as “National Threat”

President Trump’s National Security strategy will not include the weather as a threat to the nation.

“Climate change is not identified as a national security threat,” an official said, adding that the position is consistent with Mr. Trump’s decision earlier this year to withdraw the U.S. from the Paris climate accord that was signed by President Obama. The official said the importance of “climate and environmental stewardship are discussed” in the plan.

Nazi Trump is one of the worlds staunchest supporters of the Jewish State, so it only makes sense that racist Trump would advance a global security strategy that actually helps brown people.

Don’t Let The Title Fool You – NH HB1566 is “AN ACT Prohibiting Firearms”

guns, pistols, rifle, revolvers, and ammunitionDelmar Burridge is the lone sponsor of HB1566. And act prohibiting open carry of a firearm in certain public places. But the title is misleading because the language of the bill suggests a different goal entirely.

The trouble begins right out of the gate.

159:27 Firearms Prohibited in Certain Public Places.
I.  No person shall knowingly and openly carry a loaded or unloaded pistol, revolver, firearm, or other deadly weapon as defined in RSA 625:11, V, whether licensed or unlicensed, upon the person or within any of the person’s possessions owned or within the person’s control in the following places:

Correct me if I’m wrong but wouldn’t ‘or within any of the person’s possessions owned‘ also prohibit carrying concealed?

Concord Legislators Try To “DC” New Hampshire’s Tax Code

taxesIn a staff editorial today the Union Leader points out how a series of bills promoted as tax cuts (by Democrats) aren’t tax cuts at all; which is why some Republicans are voting against them.

The Democratic approach would be to keep tax rates high, but carve out ways for taxpayers to avoid them. SB 75 would give tax credits for donations to career and technical education centers.

Of the non-denominational variety, we presume?

I should point out (because the UL didn’t have the bandwidth or the will) that the long list of sponsors for SB 75 includes three Republicans.

The End of Net Neutrality Means Less Than Nothing

The Internet http://

The FCC just tossed Obama’s attempt to regulate the Internet. When my daughter asked my opinion I told her, “remember back in antiquity (circa 2015) before New Neutrality? When the internet was a thriving, growing, thing looking for every way possible to get as many eyeballs on its corner of the world wide web?

“It’ll be just like that, and it will keep getting better.”

Vandals Trash Vigil Poster Honoring Kate Steinle

Intolerance at UC Berkeley continues. “Last night we held a candlelight vigil in honor of Kate Steinle. This morning someone tore up our poster of her and threw it in the trash. This is typical at UC Berkeley, where honoring the legacy of someone who was killed by a 7-time felon and 5-time deportee is … Read more

NH Ranked 47th Because it Didn’t Spend Tobacco Settlement Cash The Way They Want?

GraniteGrok has a long history of battling the anti-smoking data monkeys. Their numbers often make no sense or contradict the real-world evidence or just common sense. Today is no different.

The focus of a recent report appears to be almost entirely on, not results or eventual outcomes but on investing in prevention programs based on CDC guidelines; and more specifically, how much of your tobacco settlement money you spend on “prevention.”

2410419-smoking_is_sexy_by_tayler_aleks-560x323 (1)According to this report, from Tobacco-Free Kids, New Hampshire ranks 47th for protecting kids from smoking while in contrast, the state of Alaska ranks second best.

Contrast? Sure. The contrast is all about money. At least that’s how it looks.

New Hampshire spent $125,000.00 on tobacco prevention in 2017. Alaska spent 9,493,500.00 (9.5 million). And taken in a vacuum, without any other considerations to health overall welfare of children, the side-by-side numbers look like this.

Category NH AK
Adults who smoke 18% 19%
HS Students who smoke 4.30% 11%
Deaths caused by smoking 1900 600
Annual Est Health cost 729 mil 438 mil
Portion of cancer deaths att. To smoking 27% 31.40%
Resulting tax burden per houshold $875.00 $1,074.00
Est. Tobacco Ind. Marketing 79.6 mil 17.7 mil
Ratio marketing $ to Prevention $ 568.7/1 1.9/1

If we’re talking about the headlines, the Campaign for Tobacco-Free kids pumped this gem up on a national newswire about their report: National Report: New Hampshire Ranks 47th in Protecting Kids from Tobacco.

The Keene State College Budget Crisis Evolution

photo c/o Boston.com – The beginning of Keene State’s Enrollment Crisis

Keene State College has an ongoing crisis. Enrollment is down. They are running a deficit.

In an article from this past September (in the KSC Equinox Student/Campus Newspaper) interim College President Dr. Melinda Treadwell said a lot of things, but this caught my eye.

“[We need to be] getting students excited to see what a life at Keene State could be [like] because they are shopping and we have a lot of competition, but I think we have a lot to offer,” Treadwell said. “I think we lost our story a little bit and we need to regain it.”

About that story.

Farmington NH High School Lets a Left Wing Activist Propagandize Kids in the Classroom

indoctrination-centerOn November 28th the New Hampshire Chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union shared news on Facebook about ACLU Community Organizer Daniel Pontoh’s presentation to Farmington High School students. The subject was social justice activism, and how they can create the change they wish to see in the world and in NH with the passage of the Transgender Bill in the New Hampshire House. The post included two tags. #TransBillNH and Freedom New Hampshire.

So what’s wrong with that? For starters, the TransBill is a lie, Freedom New Hampshire is a nationally funded left-wing pressure group (as is the ACLU), and “Social Justice” is a tool used by the left to socially and culturally re-engineer your children.

Social Justice

The “Social Justice Movement” endorses socialism as a means of redressing the alleged evils of capitalism and producing a programmatic equality that it acknowledges will be purchased at the price of individual liberty and require the manufacture of what totalitarian governments have called “the New Man.”

The Social Justice movement traps your child in an ideological prison that in direct opposition to its advertised purpose (Inclusion and diversity) is intolerant (even within itself) and when triggered, can result in mental health issues and violence. Liberal Democrat Keri Smith abandoned the Social Justice Movement because she saw,

Breaking News: Snowflakes Don’t Like Being Called Snowflakes

militant-snowflake

Recent research has uncovered another one of those ‘water is wet’ discoveries.

A new survey by insurance firm Aviva found that 72 percent of 16 to 24-year-olds believe the term “snowflake” is unfairly applied to millennials. 74 percent of respondents took it a step farther, arguing that they believe the use of the label could have a negative effect on young people’s mental health.

This ranks up there with researchers discovering that oral sex can lead to intercourse among teenagers.
