Dear NH State Senators:

As a conservative Republican, the current debate underway regarding Medicaid Expansion in the NH is most disconcerting. The Republican Party platform supports small, accountable government. I cannot comprehend why any Republican would look to expand Medicaid in the Granite State.  Certainly, the allure of federal dollars doesn’t trump our Republican Platform, or does it?  Under the Health portion of the NH Republican Platform it clearly states, “Oppose the implementation of Obamacare in New Hampshire”.  I truly fear this expansion plan will be the final stake through the heart of the NH Republican Party.

As a strong believer in taking the high (and often more difficult) road, we simply should not allow fear of being the “party of no”, to lead us down the wrong road.  Instead, we should take up the banner of truth and EXPLAIN why NH does not want to follow this federal usurpation of our states’ rights. Certainly, there is a way to insure those who are in true need of healthcare here in NH. The Republican majority in the NH Senate needs to LEAD. Polls support the decline of “Obamacare” in NH and indeed throughout the nation. The easy road is to “go along to get along”.  The more difficult road is to try to actually solve the problem at hand in way which doesn’t lose NH sovereignty or the destruction of our political party.

On This Week with “Mr.  wContraceptive in Presidential Debates” (that would be George Stephanopolous, Clinton’s Vonderkind, turned Democrat “journalist”) was this clip from NJ Gov. Chris Christie:

Our party’s priority should be on winning. Not winning the argument.  Winning the election.

The problem is, the base disagrees.  Yes, winning is important but that seems to be the only point to Republican Republicans, the Establishment Republicans.  Then there seems to be some kind of black hole stretching into the future as to what what happens next.  Tell us, what is the important that that comes after that – for that IS the argument that is roiling the GOP Civil War.  The base, the newly awakened to politics folks that rushed to the polls to stop the Progressive onrush, wants to know – how are you, the Establishment Republican “leaders” going to stop the Leftward March of the country and the State of NH.  It seems like the Establishment wing of the Party doesn’t want to be either questioned about that, or answerable to that main question.

S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley said Tuesday that she backs a proposal that would make it legal for most South Carolinians to carry guns – concealed or in the open – without a permit or the training that the state currently requires.

Haley made her comments after she signed into law a bill that allows gun owners with licenses to carry concealed weapons into businesses that serve alcohol – restaurants and bars – as long as they do not drink alcohol and the businesses did not bar guns.

After signing the restaurant and bar bill, Haley said she backs a pending state Senate bill, called the “Constitutional Carry Act,” that would eliminate the state’s current permitting and training requirements for citizens who wish to carry firearms.

Gunlaws.com puts the idea like this: “No tests. No taxes. No paperwork. No fingerprints in the criminal database. No photographs. No expiration dates. No plastic-coated permission slip. Just rights. For all law-abiding adults.”

What are we doing? Why are the leaders of our party—the party that is supposed to stand for balanced budgets and fiscal sanity—giving up on the fight? Why did our party’s leadership essentially caucus with the Democrats in order to work against us?

2010 was the year that the TEA Party fed furor over the socializing and increasing size & reach of Govt had common everyday people get involved to say “Enough – no more”.  It gave the Republicans in the House, where they hold the power of the purse, a majority. We heard lots of promises during the campaign and a lot of words during the start of that session, among them “limited govt”, debt ceiling”, “spending” and “taxes”.  Fiscal frugality, here we come!

Yeah.  Sure. Charlie Brown in the grassroots and today, the DC Republicans in the House AND the Senate assumed their normal role of Lucy and the football.  Over and over again, we heard from these “brave” solons that we were not to worry – THEY would take charge and implement fiscal sanity.  And today, against all Republican Principle, the Platform, and the promises made during their campaigns and rhetoric spewed the last couple of years, they handed their Constitutional power of the purse over to Obama.  They voted, with no shame it seems, to suspend the debt ceiling (enacted in 1905) until March of 2015.  NO limit, no covenants, no promises from the most UNlimited spending President we’ve ever had.  One that has already spent $7.7 Trillion in 6 years.  And now has his hands completely unbound.  Yeah, this is gonna work out well.

With a miasmia not seen since the Carter Presidency, you’d think that those elected to Congress would actually attend to those things of national / world level.  We’re still at war, our allies are running away from us, our enemies are laughing at us, the economy is in the tank with unprecedented levels of labor UN-participation, a majority of folks believe the country is in bad shape, a military that is being hollowed out, and a President that leads from behind as he’s not only transforming America, he’s doing it by taking over Congress’ responsibility.  With an almost  New Normal of Misplaced Priorities, what do two CongressCritters believe is the best use of their time?  Not the above things, but things like what a football team is named: the Washington Redskins

The Oneida Nation wants it changed, the Political Correct Shut’er Uppers, and the Professional Outraged all want to do all they can to force a change to something they don’t own.  Really – don’t like the name?  Ante up the selling price and you too can own a pro team – and change the name to your heart’s content.  But not willing to put their money where their mouths are, Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA) and US Rep. Tom Cole (R-Ok) (many times, buttinski-ness knows no Party boundary – or decency).  Instead, they decided with their lofty titles (instead of taking care of their own business – at which they are failing, IMHO) to put their noses where they don’t belong.

Well, it turns out that the owner of the team, Synder, is getting real tired of other people telling him to “think right” and let off a “mind yer own biz first” corker

If New Hampshire were to expand the program, the federal government would pick up the full cost for the first three years and 90 percent over the long haul. New Hampshire’s health care providers would share in an estimated $2.4 billion over seven years.

The bipartisan agreement would end when federal funding drops below 100 percent in three years unless the Legislature voted to continue it.

…”the Legislature would EVER vote to” discontinue ANY new entitlement?  Riiight.  Once enacted, there will be NOTHING bipartisan about stopping it.  Democrats would NEVER vote to  take away an entitlement, any extension of the Welfare State and the Republicans would not stand up to do unless they had supermajorities in which they didn’t have to worry about a thing (or wait….we did have that, didn’t we?).  Face it, now that the NH State Senate  Republicans decided to build this on-ramp to a more socialized State,  they won’t EVAH have the stones to repeal this Obama stew.  Democrats will continue to ride this new Republican provided highway until they arrive at the sign that states:

And that is because as you bump up against the Government subsidy levels, one additional dollar of income can result in thousands or tens of thousands of healthcare insurance costs that were formerly paid for – by others with their tax dollars.  Beeler nails it:

The Obama Administration proclaims “Less Job Lock” (staying at a job for its healthcare)!  “More Freedom, More Choice!” – but fails to be fully transparent by not admitting that this new found entitlement Obama derived Freedom  is only possible for some “choose” only by having  many more having to work MORE – or having THEIR standard of living intentionally lowered by having to pay more taxes to pay for those  who have decided to be less self-reliant and more dependent on Government.

Sometimes, it’s easy and sometimes, there’s not much to work with.  But as I’ve said before, if Pindell is gonna ask, SOMEBODY has to answer……even if it is only me.  From last Friday’s Political Scoop:

• What did Andrew Hemingway’s camp make of Jeb Bradley’s comments on CloseUP that if Brown gets in the U.S. Senate race other Republicans could run for governor?

It not only sends a message to Andrew of “You’re not good enough for me” but also a message to the more vibrant part of the Party (the “New” Republicans, the Liberty & Freedom wing of the Party).  Not that he had to send much of a message with respect to the base – that was already done with pushing the Obamacare Medicaid Expansion.  It basically sends a big F. U. loud and clear so as to say, like much of the Establishment wing of the Party: “Go away, we don’t want you“.  Fair enough – old news.  What it also says is something FAR more dangerous for the future of the NH GOP, given the tilt of party registrations and the closeness of races in many of the districts with NH GOPers:

Not only do we not want you, we don’t NEED you either

Good luck with that. I’ll respond with this question: what does NH GOP Chair Jennifer Horn think of this constant “snub you” messaging to a large part of her Party?  Doesn’t she realize they may take that message to heart?

Ron Christie at The Daily Beast has the observation:

In the past few weeks, I’ve noticed a widening rift between the Republican establishment and the Tea Party activists who swept John Boehner into the House Speaker seat and put Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell within striking distance of a majority to effectively cement President Obama’s lame duck status.

And the question:

In conversations with members of Congress, lobbyists, and the chattering class on television–none of whom wished to speak on the record–many grassroots activists would rather take out an incumbent GOP officeholder in a primary challenge for perceived disloyalty to the base at the cost of Democrats winning the seat. That this switch of support by grassroots activists would occur less than four years after the GOP rode a massive wave of voter disillusionment with Washington is fascinating. The question is, what was the triggering event that created hostility between many conservative members of Congress and their constituents who elected them?

No,  Steve, it is NOT “not… intentional“:

I’m not saying that any of this was intentional, by the way.  I’m saying that the sponsors are probably too blinkered by their own arrogance, trapped in the tunnel-vision of their own circumstances, to realize the destructive power of what they are trying to do.

I believe SB120’s resurrection is BECAUSE of the Conservative base’s outright ANGER over Medicaid Expansion – while NH State Senator Chuck Morse is up front, the whisper behind his throne is that of NH State Senator Jeb Bradley – an attempt to insulate this crime against Republican ideals by locking down a Cone of Silence.  In essence, “I will use the Force of Government to shut up my opponents!”

I cannot think of any other reason to do such a thing contra “abridging the freedom of speech“, one of our foundational Pillars.

I believe it and will declare it: the actions of the NH Senate Republicans (especially two of the SB 120 sponsors: NH State Senator Jeb Bradley and NH State Senator Sharon Carson) ARE INTENTIONAL.  Those that are sponsoring this bill are not dumb (mostly).  Several are actually rather bright – they just believe that they can close this barn door behind them to keep the rabble (that would be anyone that disagree with their Highnesses) out.  Deliberate?  – I do believe that there is Malice aforethought, – after all, elections are coming up for all of them.  In this case, and in my humble opinion, a craven attempt for personal gain over what the Republican Party stands for – from the Platform:

It’s been a long day and I am just getting to listen to WMUR’s Close Up.  Our official motto is:

Spank’em when they’re wrong and Thank’em when they’re right.

Bradley is right and I thank him, when he said he’s put a bill in to stem the leaks in the present Highway Fund that allows the gas tax monies to go to other entities than what that fund was meant for.  NH State Senator Rausch (R) is STILL wrong on trying to raise the gas tax.

He’s also right on being against Common Core and for letting and giving more choices for Parents in determining how and where their children should be educated.
