“Inclusive” – that’s the word that is tossed around by the Left to describe the world as they want it to be.  Kumbyra and all that – a glorious Utopian place to be.  There’s a hitch in all that and Jennifer Abbott shows the true face of the Left – and why their usage of “inclusive” really means “as long you you submit to our philosophy” (sorta like with militant politico-Islam, which means “submission”). This would be the Paid Family Leave Act – something that a few companies have put into action on their own thinking that it was the right thing to do and would possibly given them a competitive advantage a strictly voluntary program.  Well with HB628, we now have a CLASSIC example of a Progressive Govt crowd-out in which Democrats just love themselves a new revenue source, co-opt a private sector idea, and shove the nose of the Govt camel not just under the tent but through the other side. The problem is that I doubt this is an isolated incident:

If you are thinking of building a bridge, be careful if your engineer went to Purdue University. Donna Riley, the head of the engineering department at Purdue, has put the world on notice that “rigor” is a dirty word. In an article for Engineering Education called “Rigor/Us: Building Boundaries and Disciplining Diversity with Standards of Merit,” Professor Riley, who is also the author of Engineering and Social Justice, argues that academic “rigor” is merely a blind for “white male heterosexual privilege.” Yes, really. . . . Professor Riley’s gibberish is meant in earnest. Her essay appears not in a science fiction journal or a publication intended for the denizens of a sanatorium but a journal concerned with science. This woman is the head of a department of engineering in an institution of higher education. The moral is, we suppose, that things are always worse than they seem.

SHOT: We need more diversity because MORE ADMINISTRATION!!!!

Read through the official DEI materials and you soon feel overwhelmed by inspiring platitudes and glossy pictures of smiling minorities. As I noted in an earlier Michigan Review article, the administration has a nasty habit of hiding potentially controversial policy decisions deep in a matrix of feel-good fluff and pages of meaningless drivel, such as:

Your passion for making us better, your belief that all individuals deserve an equal opportunity to succeed and your unwavering dedication to the highest aspirations of our university.

Whether DEI will accomplish that is questionable, but the plan certainly succeeded in adding new positions within the administration, including the vice provost for equity, inclusion, and academic affairs. According to UM Salary, the University of Michigan’s open salary database, the provost earned $385,000 during the 2016-2017 school year.
