Rep. Steve Pearce proposes ‘virtual’ Congress

Rep. Steve Pearce, after more than a decade in the House, thinks he knows why people are so unhappy with Congress. Once elected, lawmakers become creatures of Washington and lose touch with the people who sent them there. To fix it, the New Mexico Republican has proposed a resolution that would let lawmakers work the way millions of others do: remotely. His resolution, H.Res. 298, encourages the House Administration Committee to explore ways to let members work in a “virtual setting.” That would include letting members debate, vote, and even attend hearings while they’re home.

I am one of those millions that telecommute every day.  In fact, except for the first 2 years, I’ve done it almost all my career.  Now, being a software engineer / consultant, my line of work lends itself to being able to do just that.  But this has a few GREAT ramifications for We the People:

Yeah, more of the “All Republicans want you all to DIE!” talk.  For Progressives, this is their outlook – they can do no wrong.  They believe it and swear by it.  And we all know why – they refuse to revisit their programs and objectively review whether their programs actually hit their mark (well, they can ALWAYS hit the mark because they hardly ever have hard and fast measurements to determine that.  Look at Obamacare and look at the ruin it has brought to American healthcare for anyone that isn’t immensely rich or isn’t receiving huge subsidies to pay for their premiums (it’s always nice to get a free ride).  Once enacted, they should NEVER be inspected or analyzed.  Just look at the vitriol over removing Government control of said healthcare.

WSJ EDITORIAL BOARD: The fastest way to lose Congress is by not repealing ObamaCare.

The GOP has been promising this for 7 years.  The base put them in place for ONE and only ONE reason.  Complete repeal. Govt out of my decision making with my doctor.  No more mandates.  No more taxes. Heck, no more LOSING my doc or my plan.

But leave it to the Stupid Party to figure out how to stumble this to UTTER train wreck. They will bow to the media and Democrat onslaught, thinking that their narrative will be believed by “the electorate” and they will lose their seats.

They will lose their seats – but not for the reason they think.

Less than 24 hours after city school board members voted to authorize layoffs, 14 educators at schools across the district received word they won’t have jobs in the Queen City come next fall. Sue Hannan, president of the Manchester Education Association, described the district’s decision to hand out reduction in force notices — which happened to be National Teacher Appreciation Day — as “heartless.”

What – does she think that government is supposed to be just an employment agency?  That teachers are “entitled” to have their jobs?  In the private sector, when demand goes down, the company pares down.  Or goes out of business.  Public sector?

OPEC has asked a favor of other major producers: Please stop pumping so much and help us balance the market. The unusual plea was issued Thursday in the cartel’s closely-watched monthly report, which found that global markets are still suffering from too much supply.
The report said that balancing the market would “require the collective efforts of all oil producers” and should be done “not only for the benefit of the individual countries, but also for the general prosperity of the world economy.”

Those “other major producers” would include US frackers.  My, my, how times have changed – it’s our fault:

OPEC said that one producer in particular is to blame: The U.S., where shale producers have continued to ramp up their drilling despite lower crude prices. The increased production has undermined OPEC’s efforts to keep prices between $50 and $60 per barrel.

Minimum wage is a bugaboo of mine – I think that government should simply stay out of the wage marketplace, especially that of not allowing for private contract between producers (those providing the labor, skills, and motivation) and consumers (companies willing to pay for that labor).  We are now seeing a real life economic lab experiment in Seattle, Sea-Tac, San Francisco, and now NYC where finanical idiots have put a socialist ideology ahead of sound financial knowledge.  Thank a Progressive and their micromanagement of OTHERS property and procedures – they are costing people their livelihoods and businesses:

NYC Minimum Wage Law Forcing Higher Prices and Restaurant Closures

An increase in the New York City minimum wage is forcing some restauranteurs to either close up shop or raise their prices. According to a report from The Wall Street Journal, New York City restaurants are suffering as a result of a two dollar increase in the minimum wage that took place at the end of 2016.

“It’s going up too fast,” said Jeremy Merrin, the owner of a chain of Cuban restaurants. Merrin said minimum wage increases forced him to close two of his New York City locations and raise prices at his others. “We can’t catch our breath,” he added. Angelica Kitchen, long a staple of the East Village, closed their doors after 40 years of operation in response to the increased cost of labor mandated by the new wage policy. “I felt like I was being regulated in a way that took certain choices away from me that I felt belonged to me, rightfully, as a business owner,” owner Leslie McEachern said.  “I’m not trying to undercut or underpay anybody, but I also don’t know what’s coming down the pike.”

Statin Use Increases Odds of Back Disorder: Cohort Study. “In a large observational study of insured individuals in the military and their family members, statin use was associated with increased odds of having a back disorder, including spondylosis, intervertebral disc disorders, herniated discs, and spinal stenosis.”

I’ve been on statins for over 20 years and have had a “sensitive” back for almost as long.  In fact, for about 3 years, I had to sit in a chair like that (in fact, further back with my back parallel to the floor) as I had difficulty walking and couldn’t sit because the weight on my spine was too much to take – it saved my career.  I put my monitors on a low desk and my keyboard and trackball velcro’d to a lap desk and used a 2 system KVM switch to move from system to system.

SHOT: Obama defends Paris climate accord as Trump mulls ditching it

Former US President Barack Obama praised his administration’s record on climate change Tuesday, just as the Trump administration struggles with an internal rift over whether to pull out of the Paris climate accord.  The Paris Agreement was in part brokered by Obama and was seen as a major breakthrough after the previous accord, the Kyoto protocol, failed to include the US and China, the world’s two biggest polluters.

At a summit in Milan, Italy, focused on climate change and food availability, Obama defended the Paris Agreement and said that the US must show leadership and not “sit on the sidelines.” “During the course of my presidency, I made climate change a top priority because I believe that of all the challenges that we face, this is the one that will define the contours of this century, more dramatically perhaps than any other,” Obama said at the Seeds & Chips summit.

“We have been able to bring our emissions down even as we grow our economy. The same is true in many parts of Europe,” he said.

He fails to mention that he did everything he could to stop fracking which is, in no small part, responsible for much of US smaller emissions.  That, and his policies strangled our economy.

SHOT: California: Hey, maybe communism isn’t so bad after all

EMphasis mine, reformatted: SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — Being a communist would no longer be a fireable offense for California government employees under a bill passed Monday by the state Assembly.  Lawmakers narrowly approved the bill to repeal part of a law enacted during the Red Scare of the 1940s and ’50s when fear that communists were trying to infiltrate and overthrow the U.S. government was rampant. The bill now goes to the Senate. It would eliminate part of the law that allows public employees to be fired for being a member of the Communist Party. Employees could still be fired for being members of organizations they know advocate for overthrowing the government by force or violence.

Heck, as we have pointed out before, what’s the difference between the Democrat and Communist USA platforms anyways? Given the results in California, they already have infiltrated with D’s after their names in that single Party rule State.
