I have no idea why – I thought it was truth in advertising, myself.  These DSA-ers are about as anti-capitalist, anti-democracy (again, NO truth in advertising in their group’s name) and I bet I couldn’t find a difference between them and the Soviet Union or Bernie Sanders if I tried hard with a gun to my head (which a lot of Socialists have been known to do in both the present and the past; history is replete with examples).

That’s why I’m not interested in arguing with people who want to leave me defenseless against the next demonic attack … er … mass shooting. Most pro-gun commentators, including me, figured out a while back that the Organized Left had long wanted to turn the USA into a full-blown Leftist Paradise — one likely to be replete with cartels and jihadists armed with AK-47s and the like, true automatic rifles — have long had one fact which makes the transformation an iffy proposition: personal and legal ownership of firearms.

The Boston Red Sox are asking the city of Boston to change Yawkey Way back to its original name, Jersey Street. The name has been under fire for years for its connection to what the team’s principal owner has said is the franchise’s complicated racial past under former owner Tom Yawkey.  Yawkey Way is the street Fenway Park is on.

Yawkey owned the Red Sox from 1933 to 1976 and presided over the last franchise in Major League Baseball to field a black player. That was in 1959, more than a decade after Jackie Robinson played for the Dodgers. The team said Wednesday that restoring Jersey Street shows that Fenway Park is “inclusive and welcoming to all.” Yawkey died in 1976. The street was named for him in 1977.

All that does is make it nigh onto impossible for the average person to figure out who is goring their wallets.  It doesn’t solve the problem:

At every town meeting, a group of residents approaches the microphone to explain how they are living on a fixed income and will be forced to move from the town they’ve lived in all their lives if taxes increase. Another group approaches the mic and talks about how we cannot afford not to increase the school budget or town budget to pay for vital building expansions or services. And both groups are right. What’s wrong is the way we are asked to share the burden.

Guns, that is – either open or concealed.  I have to admit, I’m glad to see that the Concord Monitor actually quoted him on this important piece of news and I was unaware of all of his certifications in this area (reformatted, emphasis mine):

..Not only that, but Hanson said Supreme Court cases, such as Warren v. District of Columbia (1981), have found that members of law enforcement do not have an individual duty to protect people.

The only people who can really protect us from mass shootings, Hanson said, is ourselves. He’s supportive of teachers who have demonstrated proficiency with a firearm serving as immediate first responders and force multipliers in an active shooting incident. He argued that a teacher’s innate desire to protect their students from a threat would spur them to act.

“There’s one thing a cursory study of history will tell us, which is that criminals, bullies, thugs and tyrants often only respect one thing, and that’s a force equal to or greater than the force they are capable of using,” Hanson said.

Do they really hate ordinary people that much?

Yes, they do.  For liberals, the distinction between the “dumb masses” and their enlightened selves renders life meaningful.  Disdain for ordinary folks is not just an ancillary trait of liberalism.  It is fundamental to the its nature.

At its heart, liberalism is a gnostic religion, and the essence of that religion is the believer’s faith that he possesses the means of changing the world for the better.  The belief that the world must be changed requires there to be a mass of individuals whose lives are in need of change.  Following this logic, it is the liberal, not those deplorables in need of change, who knows what must be changed.  For liberals, there must be a mass of people in need of this knowledge for life to make sense.

Above all, liberalism is a hubristic faith.  Its followers share the fatal flaw of pride in their own intellectual capacity.  This is why liberalism appeals so strongly to those in the knowledge trades: teachers, journalists, writers, psychologists, and social workers. The sense of “knowing more than others” is its strongest attraction – particularly to the young, who otherwise know so little.  Liberalism confers, or seems to confer, almost immediate power and authority to those who embrace it.

OK, tonite, I’ve got nuttin – but there’s a lotta folks out there that do.  From RedState, Bonchie points out that the Left’s claim to “right to be safe”, especially those of the teen survivors from the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School murders that have gone full political, is sheer nonsense. Emphasis mine:

There is no right to public safety. There are laws which seek to provide that environment, but you can not have a right to something which relies on the positive action of others for it to be exercised. This is the same reason there can never be a right to healthcare. Not because it’s not a noble goal, but because we don’t have a right to force a doctor to treat us.

Even then, it’s not really true that public safety is a primary core function of the constitution. I’m guessing he’s taking that from the often misused general welfare clause, but in noway does that line empower the government to override individual rights. The Bill of Rights supersedes any law or action the government may enact.

Here are some interesting facts (in case you accidentally find someone interested in such things):

There are 30,000 gun related deaths per year by firearms, and this number is not disputed. U.S. population 324,059,091 as of Wednesday, June 22, 2016. Do the math: 0.000000925% of the population dies from gun related actions each year. Statistically speaking, this is insignificant! What is never told, however, is a breakdown of those 30,000 deaths, to put them in perspective as compared to other causes of death:

• 65% of those deaths are by suicide which would never be prevented by gun laws
• 15% are by law enforcement in the line of duty and justified
• 17% are through criminal activity, gang and drug related or mentally ill persons – gun violence
• 3% are accidental discharge deaths

So technically, “gun violence” is not 30,000 annually, but drops to 5,100. Still too many? Well, first, how are those deaths spanned across the nation?

Massive Overnight Twitter Purge Outrages Conservatives.

“Users locked out of accounts, lose thousands of followers.”

Plus: “Gab TV broadcast the reports they are getting by the thousands of people locked out. Twitter seems to be labeling Trump supporters ‘Russian bots’ and banning them until they provide confidential information most people don’t want Twitter to have.”

My account seems unaffected, but I’m good about blocking bots just as soon as they start following me. So I suspect Twitter really is purging fake accounts — but so far they seem to be letting leftwing bots slide.

Border wall work begins in downtown Calexico

The federal government began work Wednesday to replace a section of border wall in California, the first wall contract awarded in the Trump administration outside of eight prototypes that were built last year in San Diego. Customs and Border Protection is replacing a little more than two miles in downtown Calexico, a sliver of the president’s plan for a “big, beautiful wall” with Mexico. A barrier built in the 1990s from recycled metal scraps and landing mat will be torn down for bollard-style posts that are 30 feet high, significantly taller than existing walls…In November, SWF Constructors of Omaha, Neb., won a contract for $18 million to replace the wall in Calexico, about 120 miles east of San Diego. It encompasses an area bisected by the New River, where smugglers are known to guide people through polluted waters. The project, which includes a bridge over the river, is expected to take 300 days.
