BRADLEY: Luther and Thomas

Recently I read MARTIN LUTHER: The Man Who Rediscovered God and Changed the World by Eric Metaxas and GOING FURTHER: The Incomparable Clarence Thomas by Senator Ted Cruz. What astonished me was the similarity of their impact on Western Civilization, despite being separated by over six centuries. History does not repeat itself, but, I believe, it does rhyme.

Let’s see if Eric Metaxas and Ted Cruz can explain how the accomplishments of these two intellectual giants changed the human race even though they lived centuries apart, obviously never knew each other, and nevertheless made Western Civilization Great Again.

Martin Luther challenged the religious and societal norms of his time! Martin Luther opened the door for each individual to think for themselves. Luther let the genie out of the lamp: the individual’s God-given right to think for herself or himself. Luther unleashed the march of history, which inevitably led to the Puritans crossing the Atlantic to escape the tyranny of King Henry VIII, as Luther had escaped the tyranny of the medieval papacy.

Eric Metaxas addresses the American story in his book REVOLUTION, the most thorough and well-written account of the American Revolution and the Founding Fathers, in my opinion, written in modern times. Every American should read REVOLUTION, and all American high schools should make it required reading because it makes America Great Again! Here is why.

Enter Clarence Thomas! As Ted Cruz tells us, Clarence Thomas came from nothing, endured crushing poverty and despicably humiliating racism. Luther was demonized because he challenged the ruling religious bureaucracy in the Middle Ages; Clarence Thomas experienced disgusting, horrible racism because of his color.

Additionally, Clarence Thomas succeeded Thurgood Marshall, the first black man on SCOTUS in American history! Justice Marshall left big shoes to fill. The immensity of his judicial responsibility intimidated Justice Thomas. However, as Ted Cruz tells us, Justice Thomas’s judicial legacy has already exceeded the formidable. Martin Luther King brought equality to American society. Clarence Thomas has enshrined it in the U.S. Constitution for all future generations of Americans.

Justice Clarence Thomas followed the advice of his grandfather: THINK FOR YOURSELF, THINK RIGOROUSLY, THINK WITHOUT FEAR.

Finally, never let anyone convince you to do or say what you do not believe.  READ THE BOOK!
