Before any Vermonters vote on a constitutional amendment that makes it impossible to avoid the corrosive cultural rot of union power, check this out.
The National Education Association Vermont chapter also asserts that the state’s public school teachers must acknowledge the nation’s “white supremacy culture” as responsible for “white privilege” that is “conferred irrespective of wealth, gender, and other factors.”
Vermont is over 90% white, and it is also its privilege to be one of the most taxed states in the nation, ranking third-highest behind Hawaii and New York.
Vermont has the second-highest cost per student in the nation, while its “white kids” rank 47th in reading and 48th in math. That’s out of 50.
I think NEA-VT needs to acknowledge that union culture and privilege, irrespective of wealth, gender, or other factors, have destroyed public education in Vermont.
Vermonters are getting raped financially so their kids can be perp-walked through a system so ideologically captured that it teaches them to hate themselves, their parents, their history, even their own bodies.
And now their government wants them to consider a Constitutional amendment that would make it nearly impossible to avoid union capture.
Prop 3 is the amendment that proponents assure us just reaffirms a worker’s already existing right to join a union. That sounds nice, and it’s the part spoken out loud. The quiet part mumbled into their sleeves — the real reason they want this – is that it would constitutionally take away a worker’s right to NOT join a union or pay dues or fees to said union without losing access to employment opportunities.
As Rob also notes in the same piece, “ not one of the 15 highest-cost states [aka unaffordable] has a Right to Work law. Meanwhile, nine of the 10 lowest cost-of-living [aka affordable] states protect employees’ Right to Work.“
Union privilege has already destroyed your schools, which are some of the most expensive in the nation, with some of the lowest outcomes.
That’s not a dig on unions generally. I’m a Teamster. Was. I worked long enough to collect a tiny little pension. Not enough to buy groceries each month at pre-pandemic prices, but it’s something I paid into with a lot of hard work. And there are operations where I see the need for union organizing to protect workers in the private sector. Not government jobs.
Anyone collecting a taxpayer-funded paycheck shouldn’t be in a union, and if you need just one example, Vermont’s public schools and the NEA are it.
The only reason to ask taxpayers to educate children is to ensure future generations have the literacy, numeracy, and critical-thinking skills to understand budgets and measures that rob them of their property and threaten their natural rights.
And while public schools have rarely lived up to even that simple standard, you have to fall pretty far from the tree to make the case that schools should be teaching kids to hate their bodies, their parents, their faith, history, and country.
This is telling in another way.
If the right were as violent as the left claims, it would be dressed up in black block, firebombing NEA and school district offices. Threatening to kill judges. Assassinating union leaders in the street in cold blood. Taking potshots at Democrat party leadership. And applauding every time it happens
Instead, they are wondering how to protect their kids from the groomers and alien criminal predators.
It is a problem you invited, probably through inaction, which means it is not difficult to correct but demands commitment. Show up and vote the bastards out of office. Start with elected Democrats, then your local school boards, and then show up at town meetings and for town elections.
Don’t just get good people to run; show up and support their campaign and then show up at every opportunity when they win. Have their back. Don’t prop them up then leave them to fend for themselves, because in the long run that’d be like feeding them to the wolves. You’d just make them an example of why no one else should run for any office ever.
Democrat majorities are cruel to the minority. Ask Democrats who have ever dared to step off the plantation, even just once. If you get them elected, you have to show up and support them. Push back on the Left and its priorities. Take your school boards back, and while you’re doing that, you might want to take the legislature and the rest of state government back so it can’t rain hell on districts trying to push back on the unions.
It’ll take some work and years of commitment, but it can be done. And I wouldn’t ban unions, but I’d ban government unions. Talk about power and privilege.
