Those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it. December 7, 1941 proved America’s vulnerability. Our Presidents mostly ignored Muslim terror attacks so we suffered the World Trade Center attack and 9/11/2001.
The lesson: believe and stop an enemy who hates you, attacks and kills your people, declares its intent to destroy you, and develops nuclear weapons capable of killing millions. This describes Iran’s actions and stated intent.
Iran has been killing and maiming Americans since 1979. Iran’s nuclear program exists to deliver “Death to America”.
As with North Korea, we unsuccessfully asked, negotiated, threatened, sanctioned, and bribed Iran to abandon its nuclear ambitions. Every President since Carter has warned that Iran mustn’t get nuclear weapons.
We were shocked when North Korea exhibited its nuclear bombs. With evidence of Iran’s nuclear progress, Trump was unwilling to let Iran shock us with mushroom clouds over American cities.
Iran’s leadership believes the Twelfth Imam will return to rule a Muslim world after “A period of significant turmoil and chaos … worldwide,” which Iran’s nuclear weapons could start. Unlike the North Koreans who want to live, the Iranian leadership believes they will be rewarded if they die initiating this chaos.
Trump destroyed Iran’s nuclear stockpile. The war continues because Iran persists in rebuilding its nuclear weapons program.
Iran responded by driving up oil prices. Fortunately Trump’s energy policy reduced the impact of reduced Middle East oil, keeping prices well below those under Obama and Biden. Trump’s Working Families Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (which every Democrat opposed) put more money in Americans’ pockets, lessening the impact of the gas price increase.
These temporarily higher prices are the cost of preventing nuclear surprises in American cities and the deaths of millions of Americans; they’re worth it.
