Stop what you are doing and contact your legislators today. Why? Farm and food freedom, that’s why. HB396 is a simple, common-sense bill the governor vetoed, and we have an excellent chance of overturning it.
You’ll remember that Governor Ayotte vetoed HB396, the Food Freedom Act, which would let NH farmers sell meat they slaughter and process on their own farms directly to local customers, without being forced through scarce, expensive USDA-certified facilities.
Here’s the good news: HB396 passed both the House and Senate with near veto-proof supermajorities. That means the votes are almost there to override this veto — if legislators show up and follow through.
Every day this veto stands, small farmers stay stuck in USDA processing backlogs, and New Hampshire families keep paying more for meat than they should.
