Welcome to your Friday, july eighteenth, two thousand and twenty-six morning update. Typically, need rises to meet the publicly funded monies made available to relieve it. That’s from Anthony Daniels. No, not C3PO. The other Anthony Daniels, Theodore Dalrymple, and he’s absolutely correct. And we can see it in real time right here in America.
Pick a problem we’re throwing money at, and you could guarantee that the problem has gotten worse. One of the best examples comes from the Biden surge of illegals into America, shoving them, stuffing them, and packing them into cities like Boston and Chicago and so on. And the mayors were like, help me, help me. What they really wanted was money. Governors were like, yeah, let’s see what we can do about that. In Massachusetts, for example.
Maura Healy said, we’re gonna have more money per illegal. And what happened? We got more illegals. It just happens. The same thing happens with homelessness. The more money you throw at homelessness, the more homeless people you find yourself with. It’s just a fact.
I wrote about it recently, warning New Hampshire that the money that it was currently spending, handing it out to NGOs to deal with the homeless problem, would make the homeless problem worse, and that the solution was to spend less money or no money and watch the homeless problem go away.
See, part of the problem is it’s an awful lot of those people, they don’t want to be in a home. They want to be homeless, because they get free shit. And they want the free shit. But if you put them in a home, they don’t get the free shit anymore. So that brings us to Portland. Portland has a homeless problem. Well of course it does. It’s a great big blue city, farther left than average, even possibly if that could be imagined.
And so they came up with this program.
A program that Victoria Taft writing at PJ Media calls Adopt a Bum. And that’s what they are. They’re bums. A lot of them are just drug users, people feeding off the system. They don’t really want a home. In fact, if you if they can find a place that offers them better free stuff than the free stuff they’re getting now, they will find a way to migrate to that location to use that money the taxpayers are ponying up, many of them without knowledge because they just pay their taxes and they don’t pay any attention to what they do with them.
So Adopt a Bum was a program in Portland that would give regular people with an extra room a little cash if they would be willing to adopt a bum. Basically they would rent a spare room. Remember this? This sounds really familiar. Back to good old Maura Healey in Massachusetts. She asked residents if they would adopt a migrant. What that really meant was adopting an illegal alien who might possibly be a child rapist, a criminal, somebody emptied from a mental health institution in the third world into America for Democrat political gain.
Anyway, Adopt a Bum has not been the winning program that they’d hoped it was. In fact, it’s been around for several months now, and only five people, five people have volunteered to take the money and the bum. People don’t want bums in their homes, and apparently whatever sum they’re offering, which is something like two hundred dollars or less per week, I think the max is a thousand dollars. Is it worth a thousand dollars to have a bum living in your house? Especially if it’s one who doesn’t want to be living in a house.
The best thing you could possibly do is have absolutely no money for this thing. Stop giving them free stuff. And that’s the problem in Oregon. they give them free tents, they give them crack pipes, they give them crackfoils, they give them free clothes, they give them free cigarettes, they give them debit cards, subsidized pot, free junk food, chapstick, and then needles and tarps.
Why would you work if the town or city or state was going to give you all this free crap and you could just be drunk or high all day long and not have to do anything.
Human nature tells us that there’s an awful lot of people who would choose that path and quite a few who, having not chosen it, have discovered how much more they like it. It doesn’t end until we stop subsidizing it.
That’s a fact, and that’s it for today. I’ll see you tomorrow.
